kelseycakes20 110 Posted November 17, 2014 So I've heard it both ways. Some people say its not good to dye your hair before surgery and I've heard that some people dyed their hair the day before surgery. I asked my best friend who is a nurse and said that she has never heard of why it would be harmful if I do dye my hair. She says to go for it, why not. Did anyone dye their hair before surgery? I have surgery on Tuesday and wanted to dye my hair tonight or maybe tomorrow if its safe to do it.
zebra_print 9 Posted November 17, 2014 I don't see why it would have any effect on surgery

James Marusek 5,244 Posted November 17, 2014 There are some pre-op requirements for surgery. You cannot wear dark color fingernail polish into surgery. You cannot wear contact lenses into surgery. But I have not heard of anyone trying to prevent you from dying your hair.
kelseycakes20 110 Posted November 17, 2014 I called the ladies at my bariatric program! They said its perfectly fine to dye hair, thank god! Lol thank you all
kelseycakes20 110 Posted November 17, 2014 I've heard that you can't even have nail polish on, I already took all of mine off lol
tamg26k 479 Posted November 17, 2014 I dyed my hair and left my fingernail polish on except for one fingernail. It is hard to get the pulse oximeter reading with polish on the finger. I also had to take my contacts out. Best of luck with your surgery! Very exciting!!!

UrsulasShadow 59 Posted November 29, 2014 They told me that AFTER the surgery, you may want to not stress your hair by dying or perking, because it already will be stressed by rapid weight loss. I intend to dye moments before surgery, though, and I have some of that temporary comb in stuff to deal with the roots after????

I know many people who has had their hair done about 2 months after surgery. I got to do mine the night before so I don't have to worry about it for a while haha ???? Baybridgestylist 2 Posted November 30, 2014 Anesthesia can sometimes affect the way hair reacts to chemical services such as color or perm services after surgery. Not sure why you couldn't do it before though?
jblkmom 65 Posted December 2, 2014 The reason you can't wear nail Polish is that in recovery the nurses use your nails as an indicator of any heart and circulation issues. Your nails change when you aren't getting enough oxygen. I wouldn't wear any polish.
