Day before surgery!

Recommended Posts

So my surgery date is on Tuesday (Nov 18!) and tomorrow will be my last full day before I am FINALLY sleeved!!!! Yayyy!!

I'm wondering if any of you awesome people have any last tips for what I should bring, or do beforehand.

I already have my own robe, slippers, gas x strips, electronics, chargers, just basics. Do I have to bring my own Shampoo and stuff or do we not get to take showers there? Do they let you put deodorant on?

I also have a very important question about the milk of magnesia. Were you able to go and do things? How long did you wait for it to kick in? How long did it last? Did it taste well? Haha I've heard otherwise. Also, did anyone mix it with something or just shoot it back like a shot?

I need to go have a piercing changed out to a plastic piece so I don't have issues with the defilibrator if anything goes south (god I hope not). But I was wondering if I should take the milk of magnesia after I go get it done, but the piercer doesn't start until 1.

Any suggestions? ????

Is there anything else that people suggest bringing? That I may need or to keep me entertained? Lol

Ahhh haha really? I have to take 2 of them tomorrow but I don't know at what times, I call my hospital tomorrow to find out when they say I can take them and what exact time my scheduled surgery is!

Haha thank you!

Are you sure it's milk of magnesia you are supposed to take and not magnesium citrate? Magnesium citrate is what most surgeons have their patients use for a pre-op "clean out." Milk of magnesia is not nearly as strong.

If it is magnesium citrate, no, you won't be able to go out and do things. You'll be camped as close as possible to the bathroom. Make sure you are stocked up on baby wipes and toilet paper. The effects can last up to 24 hours. It comes in little bottles and is fizzy like soda. Make sure it is very cold before you drink it, and just drink the bottle as quickly as you can.

If it's milk of magnesia, the effects should be a lot less drastic. It doesn't taste great but the typical dose is only a few tablespoons so you just choke it down.

As far as going to the hospital, pack as lightly as possible. You may or may not be able to shower depending on the length of your stay and the hospital policy, but if you do, they can provide basic soap and Shampoo etc. Believe me, you won't particularly care about the brand of shampoo at that point.

Good luck!

Yeah the little packages they gave me says milk of magnesia and it's two little "shot" like containers lol. So since its that, will I be able to go out? All I really need is to have my piercing changed out which should not take long at all.

Hmmm good point! I'll be packing up everything tomorrow and I'll be sure not to over pack! Lol

Thanks for the tips ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
