Did anyone NOT tell their job about surgery?

Recommended Posts

I told my one co-worker because she's also a friend and she has been so supportive and helpful. And I when ahead and talked to my boss since I had to ask for time off twice because I have to travel out of town to see my doctor who will be performing the surgery and the actual surgery date. She is very understanding and supportive. She told me not to worry about doing certain duties when I come back to work so I can heal. It really put me at ease. I have a great boss. As far as other co-workers, I probably won't tell them.

I had my surgery on Monday and I will be back at work on Monday!!! I think the only thing I am fearful of is being exhausted. All any of them know is I took a week vacation!

I discovered I have a hiatal hernia that the surgeons gonna fix while he's in there. So I'm going to tell anyone at work who asks where I've been that I had hernia surgery. Because I'll be off a week for that if I had a major one.

I'm telling everyone at my office and I'd love to say I just don't care what they think, but in a way I do. I'd prefer not to be judged or be the topic of gossip but I also think I would feel worse if I tried to hide it and they discovered the truth anyway. Then I would REALLY be the topic of gossip.

My hope is that by being open about it people will get over their initial reactions, and move on. Besides, I plan on being in better shape than most of them by next year and then any remaining naysayers can kiss my butt.

I'm 3 months out and still telling anyone who asks me about my weight loss that I had surgery for it. I just tell people it's the best thing I ever did and how I now won't need to take medicine for diabetes, my sleep apnea is gone, and I run 5K's on the weekends. I am so enthusiastic and upfront about it no one has a chance to gossip. Usually it makes people curious and comfortable enough to ask questions about the procedure. I love talking about it actually!

I work in a small, professional office. I would consider my co-workers to be fairly close and personable. I am taking a week off work and they know I am having surgery, but I am not telling them it is for weight loss. No one has asked, and they have been very supportive and respectful of my privacy.

If I'm approved I doubt I'd tell my work. I've only told one coworker that I've been long time friends with so I hope it just stays there. I thought about taking time off since my upcoming wedding will be eating up most of my vacation but if I'm able to get away with a "light duty" status I think I'll be fine. I work in a lab so there isn't too much strenuous work.

I'm not telling my job! I took a week off so I pray everything works out!! I have fmla for something else though so I'll definitely be faking it until I make it if something does happen! I'm thinking positive and optimistic though! Everything will be smooth!

I will talk more when I start to have more noticable results. I do not want people to think I am sick. But really it is no one's business. A few close friends at work know...otherwise I did not make a big deal about it. I did it near a spring break at my school so I was recovered and back before anyone knew much.

I told my boss after surgery. He's a jerk and I told him bc I was nauseous in the mornings and was late a few times. I was telling him so he could fully understand why I was having a tardiness issue he didn't even thank me or tell me he was appreciative of me including him. I have FMLA so I didn't have to tell him jack. I have told a few coworkers who are so supportive. I told another manager and she is very supportive as well. If people ask why I was out or if everything is ok I am more open to telling people now. I wasn't at first and I was embarrassed and so ashamed but now honestly this is the best thing I could have done for myself and to be getting back healthy making permanent healthy changes to my diet and actually exercising I am almost proud to tell people. ALMOST and at the end of the day it's what I want and I'm learning to not care about other people.

I told work I was going on vacation. Didn't want their negativity to bring me down. I only told my one friend and family members. One girl overheard me on the phone so she's in on the secret but no one else. My body my business.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
