My journey seems out of sink?

Recommended Posts

Mat the start of my journey I found my weight was 348. I had to do a 6month dr approved weight loss counseling and had to lose 30lbs before the dr would do surgery. To get myself ready the last few months I was doing Protein or full liquid only with a light evening meal. I had increased my activity level to walking anywhere between 1 to 6 miles per day. I didn't drink soda and switched to healthy eating. The weight wAs difficult to get off. Finally I was approved for surgery and started my 2 week clear liquid only. I was allowed 2 meals in the first week and one within the second week. Because I wanted to stay focuses my 2 meals in the first week were simply a can of tuna made into a lettuce wrap. My final meal was a salad in the middle of the second week. I stayed on Protein drinks and clear liquid as directed by my dr. Yet I only lost 2lbs which was depressing and hard for me to grab as I took that as being a failure. On discharge day I was 312 which was 2days post op. I just checked my weight and for the first time in over 4 years I'm below 300. I'm at 299. I am playing by all the rules set in place by my dr and will go back to him on Tuesday which is 2wks post op. I see everyone with the huge loss up front of almost 30lbs in the first week and I'm curious what in the world I'm doing wrong. I don't even get in 40oz per day of liquid and I won't be in purée food until Thursday. I am happy that as of surgery I'm down 13lbs. I do manage to walk on average 2 miles per day post op. But what am I doing wrong that I don't have the vast changes I hear everyone else posting? :( don't get me Wrong from start that puts me down 49lbs from the start of my journey. I'm just feeling lost and out of sink with everyone else I see posting.

Thanks in advance

Don't compare yourself with anyone else. Some people have dramatic weight loses and some do a gradual, slow, but steady weight loss. It's barely been 2 weeks. Relax. Your doctor will tell you if you are doing something wrong.

30 lbs in the first week? I've been around here a while now and I've never seen that.

By my math you've lost 13 in less than 2 weeks since surgery (going from 312 to 299) - that's one of the faster rates of weight loss I've seen. You shouldn't be disappointed, you should be thrilled IMO.

I'm 5 months post op and have lost 75lbs. My expectations of the rate of losing the weight was certainly much more at this point. As many people will tell you everyone's rate will vary. Take it one day at a time and remember as long as your weight is going down your a step further in the right direction. Congratulations on your journey.

You will also find u need increased calories and Water to lose weight. Get that Protein and water in. It will come off faster. I did lose 27 pounds in my 1st 2 weeks. BUT I'm now 4 weeks PO and still just at 28 pounds. Not discouraged a bit because hey it's almost 30 pounds in a MONTH! I feel better finally and getting into a normal routine. I would rather it come off a bit slower. Gives my work outs time to get more in shape :)

Thanks to all who replied I can't wait to go to the dr Wed for my first post op update. Today has been rough and my body uncooperative as I experience my first sick to my stomach. I think the mental loop was worse I was scared something would break loose. I'm going to stick to Clear Liquids for a few days. I should be starting baby food applesauce and purée foods but I think I'll giv it a little extra healing time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
