Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

crazulay I am also on preop diet day 3. I feel nauseous sometimes and get bursts of hunger. What is your surgery date? I saw someone said they went to the grocery store. I send my dh. Yesterday I did attend a movie theater and stayed on track. I find myself getting headaches some. Has anyone experienced this?

Also to those who have been banded? Could you please reply as to what side of your body your port was placed? Thank you.

I'm on day 4 of my pre-op diet. Already lost 9 lbs of "real" weight (13 if you count what I put on during my "last supper syndrome").

I hate this diet. I'm weak, nausious and really really moody. I've yelled at my kids and DH more these last few days than I would in a month. Thank goodness my DH is patient with me.

BobbertsMom,

I am so sorry you have to deal with this kind of a jerk. I weighed 402 lbs at my first visit with my doctor and he has been nothing but supportive. I cannot imagine being able to do this without the doctors and nurses being on your side. I suddenly feel very fortunate. My problem with your situation would be that I could not keep my mouth shut with him. How do you think he would react to you if you told him how you feel and that he is that A##. For sure I would report it to the proper people, so that someone else would not have to go through what you are.

I do wish you the best of luck in your future with the band. I feel like it is my chance at a new and productive life that I can enjoy! I want that for you too. Please know that you have all kinds of love and support on this site and I will send up extra prayers for you and your patience.

Hang in there. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

WOW, lots going on in the last 17 hours since I've posted. See what I miss when I go out!!!!

Had a great time fishing. Only caught 1 all evening, about a 2-3 pd catfish. My DH had left to go get some training pants for my son (we had forgot his backpack of pullups and a change of clothes), and don't you know I caught it on his pole, when he was gone, and his real broke in my hand and I had to pull the fish in by the line. Good thing it wasn't bigger than it was.

Ok, let's see how I do on this one, I've been writting things down for an hour now,

First, our newbie, tnavarro5, welcome to the best, most active, supportive group out there. We're excited to have you aboard.

Ribearty, my DH is a huge Cardinals fan, but what is worse than that is that we live in Covington, KY- 5 minutes from Cincinnati Reds Park, where we have just been named to have the worst record in baseball history and just fired a manager, again, in the past 2 weeks. So see, it's not that bad for you!!!! Also, my port is in the middle, right under the bra line.

Wrangler, I would think your recumbent bike would help the gas some. Try it and see, I don't think it will hurt you, just don't go real fast, not that you would. What happend with the phones???

Welcome back GeGe and Dieka. Gald everything is going good, especially after a second surgery Dieka. I about fell out of my chair reading that, but you sounded cheery so I knew you were ok.

dmtjet, My Dr. said I can ride the rides at my amusement park 4 weeks post op, so that to me means I can start lifting weights, aerobics, etc. at 4 weeks, as long as my healing progresses the way it has been.

NDprarieLover, did they tell you your port will set off the security at the airport? I've never heard of this. Another question for my Dr. as I'm flying to Florida in October. Love the idea of yours to take your class on a walk to promote healthier lifestyles.

ReneeMarie, am I correst that you posted you drink 3 to 4 32 oz cups of Water a day? This is 96 to 128 ozs of water a day, correct. I'd make sure this is ok by your Dr. I've known someone to actually have water poisoning from TOO much, kind of like alcohol poisoning. But I believe you are just like me, because I used to do this too, until this happened, and I cut back to 80, 90 at the most per day.

Joann, sounds like you're doing great and well on your way.

Dini, I'm not drinking 30 minutes before a meal or until 30 minutes after a meal. Thanks for adding me to our cruise list. I'm going to try to research how to post polls later today.

gladster, wow, what a prediciment. I'd have to come up withan excuess to miss the dinner. You won't want to be trying to explain yourself 3 days post-op, and on pain killers. You're liable to kill him at the table.

You'll have plenty of time to confront him on it, and I'd think before is good, or way after the fact is better!!!

Kathybad, sounds like the hernia story is going to work for you. Hope you don't have to do a lot of taste testing. You can spit it all out and say it tastes bad!!!!!!!!!

God Bless all the teachers and nurses on board. You have chosen the career choices that require a lot of patience, and I'm sure you all have gained so much from your experiences. I can only imagine.

And to all the Biker Babes out there, Rock On for me. Used to be a "YAMA-MAMA myself, as my ex and I had a '95 Yamaha YZF 650 ( sport bike, known as crotch rocket) back in the day, and then he was hit on it, 8 months after we were married. A 76 year old lady was pulling out of a convenient store and didn't see him, or the big yellow school bus driving right next to him. He hit her fender, flew about 40 feet and hit pavement on the left side of his head, no helmet. Ended up in ICU for 6 days, and in all was in the hospital for 2 weeks, and had to undergo Occupational, Speech, and Physical therapy for months. Our main witness to the accident was a retired cop and said if he had his helmet on, the way the sport helmets start higher towards the back of the neck and come down farther towards the front, he would of broke his neck instantly, and died on the scene.

It was a long, drawn out battle, and in the end we were awarded $170,000, but after having filed bankruptcy because of unpaid hospital bills, most of the money went to the bankruptcy paying off the debts we filed against. He was never the same man, and 6 years later it was time to move on.

So Biking is not at the top of my list of things today, but because you can be as careful as you want to be out there, but it's always other drivers who are not as careful, and these are the ones who scare me.

So, drive as safe as you can, and watch out for all the others who don't watch out for you.

Wow, I think I'm finally done. I hope there's not another page or two to read now. I'm pooped!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone,

How are all my fellow bandies? and future bandies? I have a off the wall question for you all.

Do any of you have a Lap Band Doctor you don't like? I havent herd to many people who complain that they dont like there Doctors, but sadly, I cant stand mine. He's arrogant, over confidant, clynical, and has a very take it or leave it attitude.

don't get me wrong, I saw this on my very first visit, He actualy refered to his larger patients as "500 pounders" when I said that I was surprised he was recomending LB for me cause I realy thought I eas too big for LB surgery, he dose both LB and RNY. but I foolishly convinced myself that it was OK because I wanted a compitant doctor regardless of his personality. BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART! He also refered to one of his patients as a "bone head" for eating hotdogs and having problems with vomiting, this was when I asked about my fears of vomiting with the LB.

Every time I go to his office I leave there more mad more Pissed off. I dont as a general rule choose doctors fo my self I dont feel respect me as an informed patient and most importantly wont talk to me as the INDIVIDUAL THAT I AM!

I hate feeling that I'm just another abdomin to this guy, I should have NEVER let him do my surgery!

now I'm stuck with him for the next year for fills and any other issues that may come up with my band. :cry

Am I just being a big baby?

I'm afraid if I tell him how I realy feel, He wont honor the fills I PAID for for 1 year!

HELP....How do I cope with this A** for another YEAR!

I couldn't imagine your situation. One question... does he do the fills or does his nurse? In the clinic I go to, the nurses and staff are the ones I will see when I go in, not the Dr. Although everyone who's met my Dr. really likes him, so I'm very fortunate. But I really will only see him for any complications.

Hopefully that will be the same for you.

My own experience (which is extensive as my 2 kids have 12 Dr's and specialists between them) is to grin and bear it. Be sure to get your questions answered, just try different ways each time and find out what works best. However, if you challenge him, in my experience, he will just become less available and more of a jerk. If you just let him sound off, then he might get over it quickly with you.

Hope this helps. Believe me, I usually want to tell these ones exactly where to go, and give them the directions in case they get lost on the way :)

Bobbets Mom, were you self pay? I'd tell him how you feel, and if he tries to give you sh-t about it, then ask for a refund on your 1 year fills, and tell him if he's going to be like that, your money spends elsewhere, and you'll find another Dr. to fill you. You paid for surgery and fills, not for his attitude, and his comments. He should be there for you regardless, and if he can't handle his profession, then maybe it's high time he looks into another one!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm sort of pissed at myself. I started a diet in Nov. 2006 and weighted 275, with a body fat of 52%. I lost 75 lbs, kept it off for 5 minutes and gained 88 back in about 5 months. Today, I checked my body fat... its 60% OMG OMG. I now weigh 10 lbs more than I did back then, but what I lost before included muscle mass and I gained back all fat.

Ohhh, am I motivated now to make this work!!!!

Hi DIni,

I'm still up, cleaning house. When I realised I only have one week left to get it done before surgery and I start a new job the week after surgery I decided I had better kick it in high gear! I feel like I'm having the new Mom nesting thing going on. Plus I'm trying to stay busy and out of the kitchen!

I loved this post - I think I'm "nesting" as well - feel like I did before I had my daughter! :)

My surgery is this Tuesday - here I was so excited to have it so quickly, but now am having a hard time sleeping at night because I'm getting so nervous! Tonight is the last night I'll sleep in my bed before leaving for surgery...just getting awfully real. Thanks for letting me vent!

Hey all! I haven't been on since Friday....looks like I've fallen way behind!

Hoping someone has some advice on Protein Shakes. Are there any out there that don't taste horrible? My friend gave me this chocolate stuff to try, and I can't say I'm a big fan. Are there any that truly have no taste?

thanks :)

Icy breeze, what are you using now? I use the Body Fortress from Walmart. I take 2oz skim milk, 1 scoop powder, add ice and blend. But I've been making up my own concoctions that include, Peanut Butter, bananas and peanutbutter, blueberries, raspberries, bleuberries and raspberies, cinnamon and splenda. The skys the limit, possible ingrediens are endless, just add whatever you like into the Protein Powder and milk. I look forward to my shakes everyday, and I keep trying new things. The vanilla is creamy, the chocolate is a bit gritty, so when I use the chocolate, I only use 1/2 scoop and use a 1/2 scoop of vanilla for my full scoop. Hope this helps, but I've never used my unflavored Protein powder for my shakes because the vanilla makes it so creamy!!!

Lynette, thanks for the suggestions! I have the Designer Protein whey in chocolate. The aftertaste is killin me! I also followed the directions, which said to use 8-10 oz. milk. That makes for a whole lot of Protein Shake and I'm having a hard time choking it all down. There's a Walmart not too far from me...I'll have to see if I can pick up some vanilla.

Icy,I'm only allowed 4 ozs at my meals, so that's why I only use the 2 ozs of milk. All the other ingredients make it up to b about a 6 oz shake, but I still drink it all. There is no after taste after adding in all my yummys. Just mmm, mmm, good.

Kathybad, isn't it funny how we can turn anger at ourselves into motivation to do good. Kinda like reverse psychology!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
