Good Morning Gang - What's up this fine Saturday morning !!!

Exercise - Brag !!!

I did 4 miles this morning - I did 3 songs on incline of 10 at 2.6 to 3.0 speed and no holding on - I rarely ever hold on anymore even at 4.0 on a 1 or 2 incline - I burned 425 calories. I am so much stronger that I was just since March - When I first got my trainer he put me on the treadmill at speed 2.5 and incline of 4 - i could barely do it (i rarely did inclines prior to march and if I did 3 was max and held on and prior to march I held on all the time)- now I do incline of 4 at 3.5 no problem

Also out of 365 days I have been to the Gym 178 days - out of 52 weeks I have been to the gym 25 week - I guess that would qualify me as a gym rat???? If you take out the 6 weeks after surgery (i didn't exercise during those 6 weeks) - that 46 weeks and I have been to the gym more 25.43 weeks.. You guys just don't know how proud I am of myself for this - for me it's like Karri running a marathon - thats how big it is for me.. :biggrin2:

Karri - Thanks for that info - I did find that my doc really just took his bypass instructions and relabeled them Lapband... I found swallow Vitamins at Bariatric Advantage but you are suppose to take 6 in a day - I am not good at taking pills (not that its hard I just hate taking pills - never have to worry about me being a prescription pill addict)

I need to find a swallow small Vitamin - I find that I am bruising and I don't really care for the chewables any ideas gang...

I am glad you are eating Karri and ya sitting around is boring - can't believe that's all we use to do :) How's the a/c working?? I work up this morning at 6 and it had rained.. it's 85 - 63% humidity ... only suppose to get to 100 today..

Ruby - If I were home all day - I would have the same problem reaching for a snack here or there - I find if I am busy or out and about I don't think about food - but being bored is when I start looking for the food to..

OK - need to get showered and dressed and run my weekly errands...

CBL:shades_smile:

good afternoon ladies. Just a quick check in since I needed a lbt fix. I fixed my curtains for my bathroom. The tiler is coming Monday so that maybe by Tuesday I can have my bathroom back... or at least my shower. I can't wait to have it all done. I'm trying really hard not to go to the store and buy new stuff for it until Monday when I go to Minot.

Janet!!! How awesome you are! That is absolutely amazing. To think you went to the gym more than you didn't go to the gym. And you didn't even have a trainer for most of the year to keep you accountable. Just yourself. How great you are!! You will be in great shape when you get ready to do your ps too.

DH is talking more and more seriously about banding. He called the new insurance lady to find out about whether the new insurance would cover it or if we wanted to cobra the old insurance. Then he said something about how exciting bed would be when he is skinny too. Okay...tmi I'm sure....but he's really getting there!!!!

Well...I better go get something accomplished. I've only had one bottle of tea today so I need to get on the ball there. I hope you all are drinking like you're supposed to. Talk to you later ladies.

Janet, that's awesome!!!! You are my exercise hero!

I've finally started to exercise... I know, the rest of you have been for a long time now... but I've not yet committed to a plan. But lately, now that I'm off work, I've been going stir crazy and seem to have a lot of energy. So I started walking the dog and getting much more physical. Whatever the reason or motivation... I'll take it. I count my blessings wherever I can.

I also did something with my extra time that I think has been constructive. I've always wanted to share my family's story and help other parents with special needs kids. I've often thought of writing a book, but that is such a huge undertaking and so expensive. So instead I've created my own website. If anyone knows of a family with a special kid, please send them a link to this site. It is in it's early stages and I plan to add lots more stuff, but its a start. Here's the link...

parentingspecialkids - Parenting Special Kids

I also lost 3 more lbs this week!!!

Congrats, GYM RAT!!

You are truly motivated!! What a GREAT accomplishment!

Exercise is addicting!

And, I'm very competitive, so I keep trying to beat my best scores on all the Wii events.

Chewables... have you tried the Centrum Silver. They're not too bad. There are liquid vitamins, but the only ones I've tasted were much more nasty than the chewables!! I think I saw some different chewable Multivitamins at costco yesterday that were kind of like the calcium chews. Someone suggested Gummi Bears chewables. I thought they had some or seniors, but I've only found kids'. That'd be okay, I suppose.

Spotting problems resolve??

Minot.... what memories!! When I see you I'm going to work very hard at not bad-mouthing that wonderful place!! I had too many unpleasant experiences there! The whole strategic air command experience was absolutely the worst two years of DH's 21+ yrs in the AF!! And that was NOT Minot's fault!!

About your DH's comment.... I was going to suggest to you that you bribe him with that, but, there you go..... he came up with it all on his own!!

Afternoon check in

- I am making holes in my walls - I got curtians 9 months ago if not longer - asked son to hang my rods - he never got around to it - so this morning I said - Janet you can do it - well - I only have a hammer & screw driver - am not strong enough to get screw in the stud - plus I hung the rod about 4 inches lower than it should be. So had to go by a drill - am going to have to patch the holes I made - then I hung a sun above my cook top - that was 2 holes - then hung another picture - 6 holes counting the holes that the nails are in  Gotta wait til the drill charges to go make more holes in the bedroom :) But come hell or high Water I am getting it done !!!! Thats why they make spackel....

Thanks Steph & Kathy  when I asked this morning if their computer kept track of how many time I have been - I was shocked.. Like I said for me it has been a giant change in my behavior more than the eating - and I contribute the exercise as a big factor in my weight loss -

Steph That's great DH is thinking about the band - Keeping fingers crossed and good thoughts..

Kathy - will ck the website after I get off lbt - Congrats on the 3 lbs you are back on track... Did you know Steph has a website too..

Ok ya I finally remembered the name of karri's Protein Bar while I was out this afternoon pure Protein - I got the peanut choc one and ate it while at target 190 calories 20 grms pt and filling... So I bought a box of them and the choc only ... will be good for Breakfast

Well it's 6 - I am hungry... I am having a tuna sandwich for dinner I think - it sounds good ....

I love my Protein bars! If you want an extra chewy treat that lasts a while, store them in the fridge. That is where mine are right now. Just stay away from the fruit ones...they are NASTY.

Great job on the exercise...though you are making me jealous. I so desperately want to do something. I can't lift more than 5 pounds right now so I tried to convince DH that I could do arm lifts with my 5 pound weights...He disagreed. We went to a couple of stores today and I kept making park as far back in the parking lot as possible. That way I could walk more! A year ago we would have driven around until we got just the right spot. Now I am begging to walk!

We went and saw Wall-E this afternoon and if you get a chance to see it...DO! It is a great movie. Though it was a little hard for me to sit in the seats for so long. My arse is still sore from falling in the bathtub and sitting that upright really puts some pressure on the ab muscles that are really tight. I am actually feeling pretty good today. I only had one really bad lightheaded spell and that was this morning when I first got up. I feel better when I eat. I have not been keeping track of calories at all because I think it would send me into cardiac arrest if I knew how much I was eating. I am not pigging out, but the damn nuts keep calling my name. Whatever is left after tomorrow is going in the garbage. Hopefully Monday the PS will clear me to go back to 1800 calories. I did take a shower this morning and I didn't pass out so that is a good thing!

DH is making fajitas for dinner tonight and after that I am going to post my most current pictures. If I don't get them on here tonight I will tomorrow. They will be posted on my blog however. It is just tough to sit in my computer chair and I dont feel like uploading these pictures on to my work laptop. Probably not a good idea!

Chat later!

I haven't had a chance to look at your yet but I plan on getting to it shortly. My address is Steph's website there is no www in front. It is still in construction phase and I'm looking for a great background and that's why everything has different backgrounds right now.

Enjoy it.

Today has been a good day. :biggrin2: I exercised as usual this morning, cleaned house for a little bit then headed off to Aikido class. I stuck around there for an extra hour working through some things. I have a test coming up in the next month or so, so I have to start preparing now to make sure I know my stuff. Came home and we went to Starbucks for a little bit. I had an iced cafe mocha, which probably wasn't the best choice, but it was wonderfully delicious and I don't feel guilty about drinking it. Then we came home and I asked hubby if he could spend some time with me in the yard going over some of the weapons work I need to know for my test as well. He was pooped after 40 mins and I wanted to keep going but didn't want him to feel guilty about bailng out on me. So I came indoors and read for a while.

I had a Protein Drink for brekkie. I may have had a cup of coffee too, I don't remember. Didn't feel hungry enough to eat for lunch so just had some Water. Had the iced mocha in the afternoon and just now tried to eat some tuna. I could only get a couple of mouthfuls in before feeling full. I've gone way past my water requirement for the day and I may have another Protein Shake a little later just because I think I should. So it's been a good food day and I've had lots of energy to boot. I wish I had more days like this.

I think I would consider myself a gym rat now too like Janet. I force myself to stay out of it on Sundays but look forward to going every other day. It gets me out of the house and is "me" time. I've become very protective of that time alone. I get awfully cranky if I miss a session now. :)

Here are my new pictures with captions!

Good morning Gals;

I have missed you all, but I've tried to catch up on at least on the last several pages ofposts.

Karri; I am so releived that you are feeling a bit better... whew! You had me worried hun. Go slow getting back at the exercise o.k. ? everything in moderation.

Your pictures look fantastic by the way, the scars are good. Do you have to wear a compression garment? And if so for how long? What are you putting on your scars to help with the pain?

Phyl, that 5 day pouch test sounds like something that I could do when i get home from the cottage. Been just toomuch darn wine up here:crying:

Wink, wink, ya know what I mean

Janet; I know you are the food cop but there are gazillions of wild blueberries just coming into season here... so thismorning I made buttermilk blueberry pancakes with sugar free syrop in my cabin and invitedmy Sister and BIL (the killer guide) over for breaky.... OMG they were so good. Surprisingly I didn't get stuck???? I ate 3 small pancakes and 2 strips ofWELL cooked bacon.

Last night for supper i had 1/2 chicken breast, 2 slices cucumber, 1 tblsp potato salad and got stuck!!! so I uped the chicken and started over with tinier bits.... but i didn't getmuch in at all....

Yest. at lunch I had 1/2 of a cheddar cheese sandwich, granola bar; Breakfast was cheerios/skim milk.

PLUS< PLUS wine!!! I have to cutit with apple juice as wine isjust too strong tastingnow since being banded.... isn't that weirrd?

Ruby: I think you and I eat the same DEVIL foods.... we are TRULY band sista's :tt1:

Didn't see a post from Linda or Kari? Hope everyone is o.k.

Kathybad: Nice that you are making good use of your bonus time!!! Walking the dogs COUNTS.... plus they will make you feel guilty if you forget to walk them.... its alwaysmore motivation for me!!! :tt1:

Speaking of dogs, mine are completely WORN OUT... they run 22 hours a day... chasing chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits etc. oh yeah, now TWIG is trying to catch Deer Flies!!!! Good occupation up here....

OMG these bugs are eating me alive!!! I have a half swollen face from deer fly bites on my cheek and face... I look like the Phantom of the Opera in a tight tank-kini!!!!

Love you guys and miss you!!

We'll see you in a couple of weeks :tt2:

That looks pretty rustic!! Fantastic getaway!

Watch that wine!

Five Day Pouch test has been good for me. Today is the lat day. I've become more aware of my restriction and better in touch with my hunger level and how it fluctuates! Bad bouts of hunger the first two days on the liquid stage, but drinking some crystal lite would help. It wasn't that bad. then the first day... on soft Protein, I was so full all day I could barely drink anything. Yesterday, on firmer protein, I fought hunger again off & on all day. But I did okay and came in around 1000 calories by the end of the day. (I was under 1000 the day before.) OH, I've been getting weighed early every morning on the Wii... the 2nd day I was down over 2 lb, the next day about 1/2 lb and the next over 2 lb. again. Today I was UP almost 2 lb. DH was up today, too, and he hasn't been eating much more than me and he's been walking a LOT!! So, we're wondering if we're both retaining a little Fluid because it was over 80 degrees here yesterday and we were outside most of the day. My feet and ankles do not look swollen, however. So... it's been an adventure and I"m glad I did it.

OH, speaking of wine.... I had none the first three days.

Yesterday I had one small glass... about 3 1/2 oz.

I did have a 16 oz sugar free, fat free latte each day.

We threw away our old scale and we're only using the Wii, so we should be getting pretty accurate weights.

Uggghhh... Almost biffed it this morning getting out of bed. Holy crap I got so lightheaded. My legs were shaking, I almost threw up (that would hurt), and my vision was going in and out. So now I can't walk my mile today. I am pissed off BIG TIME! I do get to walk to the library, but that is about 3 blocks from here.

I joined BariatricPal in 2008 & I FINALLY made the descision to have WLS!! I'm so excited & not sure what I need to do to get the ball rolling, but I made an appointment with my PCP for 7/19. It's a start I guess.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

      2. OhMyGawdItzKla

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

      2. BabySpoons

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

      3. JennyBeez

I'm really grateful for the pre-op clinic team I had, tbh. They had wonderful suggestions starting with a year prior to surgery -- one asked me if I thought I could give up carbonation for a month in prep, for example. A month of food journalling well before the surgery was scheduled, so we could go over places where improvements could be made after surgery, etc.

It really makes me wonder about the pre-op education and support that some clinics have. I can see coming on to vent about having trouble with these things, but some people do seem legitimately surprised by some of the answers they get. My aunt, for one, was looking at a clinic in Mexico (cause she doesn't qualify for the ones here in Ontario/Canada) and they basically made it sound like the surgery would do all the work for her and she could carry on eating as normal, just with smaller portion sizes. :S
