IMHO - PERSONAL CHOICES are what makes either bypass or Lap Band work period end of story. Randy Jackson - has put weight back on - the girl from Heart who is banded has put all her weight back on (she was on Idol Gives back) and Carnie Wilson has been gaining too.

WLS is only a tool - If the opporunity arises at my meeting in June - I am going to tell them that they need to get us on Oprah - Watch out - I would give her HELL - maybe with the band she wouldn't yo yo so much

And it doesn't matter if it's on "your own" - or wls - we all can gain the fricken weight back if we don't do the mental work that goes along with our whold food addiction issues.

Oprah is always saying there are issues behind our eating - well I am sorry but her issues must be at the forfront of her life again - cuz she is packing on the lbs. Heck with all the pple she has - shrink, trainers - chefs - you would think she had it made.... She is no diff that us - but she condems us..

Someone get me on the Oprah Show..

You are too funny Janet... I LOVE Oprah, but the show you refer to PISSED ME OFF as well. ANd you know what else I think? The people who say " oh I lost it all myself" are jealous that they didn't have OUR tool.

Sure the band does help ( am finally getting it now) but I am also choosing Better Calories to eat.. watching my protien, Calcium, sodium etc.

Oh, and another NSV... by blood pressure PRE-band was 130/78, well now it is consistently 123/68!! I keep re checking it with different machines.. cause its almost too good to be true!!!! I am Happy:tt1:

At work today, one of the massage therapists was eating a large chocolate bar and "sharing" ha.ha..... NOPE , thanks anyways - don't want it!!!!

I will allow myself a sugar free hot chocolate but that's it!

I agree with the wls. If we don't work at it we will lose nothing. I could eat enough ice cream to pack the pounds back on but I don't and it bothers me that people think this is easy and fast with gastirc you can eat whatever you want and lose. But after awhile you put it back on because you did not change your lifestyle. Never before would I have been getting up at 4:30 in the morning to exercise. If i would have thought this process thru probably would have backed out. But I am proud of how far I have come and work and count every food I put in and what I do to take it off. I just would like them to now we are working not just sitting and losing. But nobody understands that. Anyway hope all is well with everyone today sorry for the rant. I am constantly asked why my weight has stopped it has not just getting closer to target and people don't understand.

My BP was about the same... on two BP meds. My appt last week....

118/62, I think. My doc was very pleased with that, but opted not to let me quit one of my meds yet. Did stop one cholesterol med, though, and that's a start. I was happy about that because I thought she'd reorder it.

You handled that temptation well!!

My treat... mid-afternoon,

if I am having hunger issues...

I go across the street and get myself a sugar free/fat free milk latte. Get's me out of the house and away from the temptations, out of my chair and away from the TV.

Yes, it's all about choices!!

DH was into the chips, crackers, cheese, etc., so, best to get out and away and get my little low cal treat! And today, I also rode over to the tag agency and renewed our car tags.. a productive distraction.

Beth - My trainer says that when you hit a plateau - that you need to change up the way you eat - If you eat beef - do chicken or fish - like how I eat my starch at night - change it to lunch and eat meat - veggies for dinner - and vary your calories Mon - 1000 - Tues 1200 - Wed 1000

so on and so forth - How's your exercise - Increase the intenstiy...

I had a crappy run tonight. Started out bad and got worse. I now have a mild injury. I think I have a muscle strain in my foot. So I am going to take the rest of the week off of running so that I can..no WILL get under 30 at the Eugene 5K on Sunday. I am going to bike and do the eliptical the rest of the week to keep the legs in shape. Hopefully that is all that it will take. I am going to ice the foot and kind of baby it. Then back to training next week. I am hoping that as long as I am still working the legs that I can pick up where I left off. I still have 9 weeks before the half marathon so we are still good on the time front.

Well I am going to bed...I had a 3AM morning today. That is pretty much going to be my schedule from here on out since DH has to be to work by 4AM. I am going to do my morning workouts then. Well except for tomorrow. I have to finish my grading. I think I am through 1st and 2nd period. I have to get 3rd period done by 7:30 AM and hoping to get through 5th as well. I think I would rather run on my sore foot than grade any more stuff!!!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Well....a productive night, but not a productive night. I had my oldest son's piano recital tonight. Forgot about that when I planned my workout for the night.

So that put me way behind tonight and I didn't do my 3 miles....but as soon as I got home I went out and walked...didn't have a lot of time so I really pushed myself. By the time I got home I checked and I did 2 miles in 30 minutes. How awesome was that??? Then after I came home I went down and tried out the total gym. I did 2 sets of arms and 2 sets of legs. It was good. I thought I was stronger than that but I guess...how could I be? I was a lard @$$ and now I may be losing it but I'm not any stronger, right???

Well...decided that I didn't need a bowl of kashi tonight, because I wasn't really hungry but needed something so had an extra Protein drink....my protein grams are up at like 150% today. That was awesome! And that leaves my net cals really down. I was so excited to see that.

I had better get to bed. It really has been a long day. Have a great tomorrow everyone!

GOOD NEWS! It's official: Bye-bye CPAP machine! Thank you Lap Band!

I drank my Water and lost the pound I gained over the weekend, so all's well with the world today. Gotta hop in the shower and get my butt to work--I'm still behind there from taking off last Friday. Sorry I just don't have time to respond to you personally, but you are always on my mind.

Good Morning Gang !!!

Karri - you better take care of that foot !!!! This is you mommy talking too you - you don't want any permanent injury to that foot!!!

Linda - How cool - No more machines - I hated mine - but again I didn't use it that long..

My trainer says that weight gain from a weekend of fun will be gone in a few days once you get back on track - you are evidence of the - Way to go,...

Only 18 lbs to go... Finish line in site - well I don't think we will ever be finished. Like Karri says - we are so use to getting on the scales and seeing drops in weight from all our work - but we are all going to get to that place where the work will be just to keep the scale at the same number - that's sort of hard on us mentally cuz we have been working to wards losing and are rewarded when it drops - what's the reward once we hit goal every time we step on the scale - I guess just that it didn't go up - but you get my drift (I hope)

Steph

Way to go on the exercise - Well with your total gym you will be building muscles and become strong...

Well another groovy day at work - I wish I could be at the gym right now - I feel strong - but Alas I have to work to pay for the gym - so tonite I hope I feel as strong :cool2:

Peaches - No one was dissing me yesterday, that was the dialogue between two students whining to me. Like I give a freaking crap about who called who trailer trash. Just smack her so I can suspend yo ass.

Jackie - What did ya'll play?

Ruby - I don't like my feet touched either.

Phyl - Congrats on the weight loss. This is my recipe for snack crackers. I take the mini cheddar cheese rice cakes, smear on some laughing cow cheese, and put on a dollop of bruschetta mix from Sams. Brushetta mix is the chopped up tomatoes with basil and seasoning. It's yummy, and I feel like I'm having a little tea party. I like to mix up my rice cake toppings. Like tea and crumpets. It's dawling. :coolgleamA:

About Meth - Google: Before and After Meth pictures,

it shows how that poison eats the users. People are freaking INSANE, :cool2: who would willingly injest poison?

Linda - Congrats!!!

Good morning all. I hope you all had a refreshing sleep. It is amazing how much better I sleep when I exercise in the evenings. I was a little worried about it last night because I got such a late workout in but it didn't seem to matter at all. I slept like a baby.

I thought I would be sorer (is that a word??) today but I guess I didn't really work it as hard as I thought. I only did about 30 reps with my legs and 30 with my arms so it wasn't a MAJOR workout, but it was HARD!! Last night I thought the girls were going to revolt they were so sore. Today, not so much.

Ruby, how did the girling up go? Are your nails wonderful? I wish I wasn't so hard on mine and I have mine done, but they are always breaking or I'm chewing them. I chewed my nails for 30 years and then quit after my dad died (it drove him crazy and I figured he was ALWAYS watching then). It was a huge habit to break and I still slip up....so no expensive manicure for me.

About the meth situation. We had some millionaire donate a bunch of funding for meth awareness in Montana. They started the Montana Meth Project. If you want to see some sad, very scary stories, go to Montana Meth Project and watch the commercials. The sad part is the stories are all true of Montana meth users. It's not fiction. We have a huge meth problem. I had one student a few years ago I would swear was using but couldn't prove it. There is a ton here on the Indian Reservations. It is so sad to see. I could talk for days about that, but I won't. I agree...who would put that crap in their bodies????

Karri, you behave with your foot. You've been working very hard and I love your goal and your determination but it isn't worth hurting yourself permanently for. There will always be another half marathon even if you have to take an extra month off. Let it heal and maybe have someone at your gym look at it to see what they say. They might have some good ideas....or if you have a trainer at the school maybe they can help. Whatever you do, be careful. I regret all the time the damage I caused my back in high school because I wouldn't listen to my drill team instructor.

Janet, you're so close I'm sure you can almost taste it. I can just imagine the feeling. So proud of you.

I was thinking.....okay that is always dangerous, but....I was wondering if you all would like to be part of a Lucky 7 slideshow. I love using powerpoint and playing with it and designing those things so I was thinking it might be fun for the M of A trip. Even for those of you not going to be there, it would be a way for you to be there in spirit. If you would like to be part of it, what I'm thinking is pictures and quotes from everyone. Things from the journey. Goals, why you did this, important things that happened that you didn't expect. You could email it all to me and then I can put it all together in a presentation. I may try to dig into past posts and find things for you all too. I thought I would see if you all were interested before going any further. School gets out in May and I'll need a project to keep my busy on days when the kids are in daycare. It's something I would love to do, but only if you all are interested.

I could then post it on the web somewhere private so that only us 7's could find it and those who aren't there can see it to.

Anyone interested or are you not. Looking for feedback is all. Let me know.

Step - Yep I can taste it - My original goal was 170 when I started this journey almost a yr ago - Joined LBT 5/14/07 - 1st appointment with Surgeon 5/31 - Then at some point I changed it to 160 - then changed it to 150 once I got a trainer (he said this is what I should weigh and still look good) - but then changed it back to 160 - mostly because I am afraid of not getting to the 150 and that it was going to put too much pressure on me - I need/want to hit a goal for once in my life. So 160 it is but truly I really want the 150 # - I want to lose 100 lbs and as of right now I don't think 14 lbs is going to make me too skinny.

So I am cheating - 160 is my official goal - but will still strive to get to the 150 as I said before - icing on the cake.. It's all a mind game - but I am delusional at times - I truly never thought I would be where I am today...

I love your power point idea... Count me in...

Oh ya 1 bottle of Water down - starting on my second...

I sometimes snack on those toasted wheat thin chips.. the veggie ones. I put a little low fat cream cheese... chive, onion, garlic... whatever I can find, and maybe a little smoked salmon. Alouette makes a low fat garlic & onion spread, too. I haven't tried the laughing cow brand.. I'll have to look for it.

I saw an orthopedic surgeon this morning. After looking at my x-rays, he says I need a total knee replacement on BOTH knees! I was anticipating that for the left, but kind of overwhelmed that he said BOTH. I want to get the left one done ASAP and the right later in the summer. But DH wants me to wait until next year to do the right one. I have to think about it.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

    • BeanitoDiego

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
