Good morning ladies. I'm feeling a little better today. Still not 100%, but throat doesn't hurt as much as yesterday and Aunt Flo has packed up her cramps for this visit and I'm just waiting for her final departure. :)

I fell 8oz short of my Water as well, but I had 2 cups of Soup, a cup of tea and coffee, so will count my goal as made. I don't usually count other fluids in my Water intake.

Not much else to say today. Be good ladies; drink, drink, drink. :biggrin2:

Okay Janet. Dont go throwing words out there without a definition. Anyway, let me take a guess at it. Peckish........picky? Like a chicken pecking at grain and gravel?

Phyll - I love a lot of the Newsboys songs.........but they are loud. I remember taking dd to see DCTalk and I couldn't hear anything for a week.

Managed to get in about 4-5 bottles of Water yesterday. I've already drank one this morning. Seems I'm most thirstiest at night. I can guzzle about three bottles easy then.

DRINK YOUR WATER, LADIES. TTYL

Good Morning Gang

Kari - Peckish (ruby used the word) means hungry - I'm a little peckish - I am a little hungry - My Cuz is from England and this is where I have heard the term... I didn't know it was an Aussie term too - Ruby do you know if there are a lot of similarities between how the English & Aussie speak??

Steph - That's why I am such an advocate of keeping food & exercise log - there are people on this board who are always spouting that they don't want to they don't want to diet - but I don't look at it that way - I look at it as learning tool - Us fat pple think a 16 oz steak is a serving size and that a 10 minute walk burns 1000 calories :w00t::lol: No wonder we were fat.

Heck it takes me 1 hr on the treadmill to burn 350 to 400 calories depending on my incline... That's only a little more than one of my meals.

Yep - My Son is burning bridges with me BIG TIME as I told my DIL yesterday I don't mind helping - but I am not taking care of the kids so that DS can screw around. So one of these days when I am really needed I will say No - you better figure it out yourself.. I am sick and tired of his BS - Alot of ppl would say I am a bad Mom - but I am not into enabling - It's hard to give tough love but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do it..

Phyl

We have nice weather yesterday and today - but the freaking wind is suppose to start tomorrow again

Ruby - Glad you are a little better - I got my Water in yesterday and I am sipping on my first bottle of the day as i type.

Well, not much to say but it is FRIDAY :frown: and that's always a good thing - as I turned the alarm off this morning I got to turn it off completely - I might not be up at 5 tomorrow - but most likely 6 so that is an extra hour of sleep :biggrin2:

Ok off to work - CBL

Good morning everyone. Things are looking good this morning. I have not started the Water but usually don't for another hour or so. Still drinking my coffee. I did cut my Creamer in my coffee in half this morning. That was my step in the right direction. According to dailyplate I've netted less calories than my goal and my gross is about 1100 the last couple of days so I guess I shouldn't be worrying so much. I just think my loss is going to slow down and I want to counteract it. I guess I should wait for the shoe to drop before I start trying to put it back on.....

I'm so excited for Karri. I hope she has a good trip and a great unfill. She shouldn't be worried. She's so dedicated to this. I wish I had half her dedication.

Phyl, we'd give anything for that moisture. The farmers and ranchers out here don't know what they are going to do. It could be an ugly summer out here. Maybe that will help you appreciate what is happening a little better.:confused2:

Janet, where did peckish come from? I don't remember someone saying it before you did....but doesn't it mean "under the weather?" That's my guess.

Peaches, So sorry about the treatment your mom is getting. Nothing is more frustrating that feeling like you're being ignored. If you need a second opinion or even a fifth opinion I think you should find someone who will take you, and your mother's health, seriously.:) Good luck!

Ruby, glad you are feeling a little better. Nothing sucks worse than feeling like crap. And then feeling tight and being on mainly liquid puts your head hunger into overdrive. You've stayed very strong. Keep it up!

Okay...off to grade papers. Have a great day all!!!

Yeah sorry. Peckish is my word and Janet got it right. It means a little hungry. I try to Americanize a lot of my posts so everyone will understand, but sometimes phrases and words slip through. Aussie has a lot of similarities with English phrases and uses of words. My hubby is used to most of mine now, but once in a while I'll say something that I have to translate. :frown:

Well I started out feeling good this morning, but as time passes I'm not feeling so great. I had a hair appointment and walked there (it's only a 5 min walk) and took a longer way home just because it was nice out and I was enjoying the weather. But the closer I got to home, the more tired I was feeling. I could almost feel my energy evaporating. :) So I'm glad to be home again and I think I'll make a cup of tea and put my feet up for a bit. I've already clocked up my 30 treadmill this morning, so don't have to feel guilty about resting. Just got to get my Water in now or I'll never hear the end of it from you lot. :w00t:

Ruby,

So glad to hear you are feeling better this morning.

My water...

so far, a cup of coffee and about 8 oz of Crystal Lite

and I've only been up about 90 minutes,

so not too bad a start!

Phyll - I love a lot of the Newsboys songs.........but they are loud. I remember taking dd to see DCTalk and I couldn't hear anything for a week.

I can hear again this morning!

Really loved those guys, but we're just too old for that. Sensory overload!!

Strobe lights, confetti shooting into the air,

dueling drums, too much for us!!

Yep - My Son is burning bridges with me BIG TIME as I told my DIL yesterday I don't mind helping - but I am not taking care of the kids so that DS can screw around. Bad mother???

Cheez! I think I must be REALLY bad, then!

We have refused to bail our son out of jail

at least three times! That's really mean!

But, we felt very strongly that

his behavior would NOT change

unless he had to pay the consequences!

Don't feel bad...

you're not being unreasonable at all!

Yes....TOUGH LOVE is okay!!

I didn't see that "subscribed thead" link over there! Thanks! I was working under

"diminished capacity"

last night when I was looking....

my head was not right after that concert!!

Well, I'm trying not to complain about the 40 degrees and rain and wind, so let me just say that the windy desert sounds pretty good to me right now...

OH, NO!!!! It just started SNOWING!!!

Large flakes falling outside my window!

Next spring we are definitely staying in the desert LONGER!!

Phyl, we'd give anything for that moisture. The farmers and ranchers out here don't know what they are going to do. It could be an ugly summer out here. Maybe that will help you appreciate what is happening a little better.:confused2:

I don't know if I can manage "appreciate", Steph,

but I'm working hard on "tolerate" without complaining! I was looking forward to another ride around the neighborhood on my scooter today since I forgot to take my wallet yesterday!! and I haven't hit Target yet! But don't know if I can do it with the wind and cold temps,

oh yeah, and the RAIN and SNOW!!

Peckish... a new one for me, too.

Thanks for expanding our vocabulary Janet and Ruby!!

And, Peaches, hope you get somewhere with your Mom's healthcare providers!! That is unexcusable!

Too Funny  - Sunny with a little haze and a little breeze :)

Ruby - Just drink your tea and call it a day..

Well, we have been very quite today!!!

Water only 1 1/2 down so far - need 2 1/2 more

lunch today was Beans 1/2 cup and 1/2 cup barbacoa (shredded beef mex style) didn't eat the rice or bread and no soda - and there were donuts in the lunch room - I DID NOT EAT ANY.... Not even the 3 bite rule.. That's cuz I am going out to dinner tomorrow nite w/gf for her bday

Trade offs - that's my new catch phrase :tt1:

The hail changed to snow and it's been coming down all afternoon. We're going over to DD's for dinner (salmon!) and starting to be afraid we won't be able to make it up her big hill to go home tonight!!

Oh, well... the RV is parked there!

Might have to use it! :)

?action=view&current=Snow2004-1.jpg

Talked to my Mom yesterday. She's almost 86 yrs and really doesn't understand the whole Lapband thing, but she's very supportive and always asking me how I'm doing. Yesterday she commented that it'd be easier for me now that I'm home because there will be less "temptations". I agreed. But I was surpirsed that I felt a little bit of an emotional response to the word "temptations".

I don't feel like there are really any temptions anymore...

just CHOICES.

So, I'm posing a "question of the day"....

we haven't had one in a long time...

How do you feel about the word "temptation"?

Are you tempted by certain foods?

I kind of feel that we have moved beyond "temptations" to a place where we have enough control to make healthy choices, and to sometimes choose to have something we wouldn't eat on a daily basis, but, as Janet just described... we allow for by cutting calories/intake somewhere else.

Am I making myself clear??

I guess I was maybe a little offended, even, by the word "temptations" because I don't think I have any at this point. I know what i should and shouldn't eat, and if I want to have something.. like a dessert, or maybe some Pasta or potatoes, then I will compensate for that by cutting somewhere else that day.

Phyl, I think you might have something there. I think there is a much better connotation with the word choice than there is with temptation. Temptation makes it sound like something is "evil". food isn't evil...our inhaling, indulging, overeating is. When we think of food as "tempting" it makes it sound super desirable and hard to resist. When we think of food choices we see it as a logical thinking process. And someone telling us that we will have "less" temptation makes it sound like we don't have the ability to make the right choice...that we are just a weak ball of blubber waiting to indulge ourselves.

There's my take on it.

I've been really good today. I still have 500 calories to eat if I don't go walking.....700 if I do. I don't even WANT to miss it tonight so I can't imagine not doing it. Family is coming for chinese food tonight. My MIL makes this WONDERFUL egg roll filling. We get together about three times a year and make a bazillion of them and binge for about 2 hours. We haven't done this since banding but I picked up some chinese veggies and some brown rice and will try to fill up on that and maybe just eat the filling out of one or two egg rolls. ...but I did save cals so that I didn't have to deprive myself. I'm so looking forward to it!!!

I'll see you all in a bit. Have a great weekend. The weekend is officially on in ALL 4 TIME ZONES!!!!!

Snow2004-1.jpg

Yikes Phyl, that is beyond weird for this time of year... Now in MY backyard I still have one little clump of ICE still left to melt. Should be gone by tomorrow though. As the temp. today was 80F... WOW, I wore short sleeves to work instead of my uniform Scrubs, OMG my arms are lily white and pudgy but I didn't care... I've had enough of "menopausal" momets lately!!! LOL

I got off work early today and took my Mom out for a walk (wheelchair ride) I brought my Jack Russell dog to visit her and the others in the Sr's Residance. My Mom didn't recognise my DOG!!! My Woody (dogs name) is 14 yrs old and my Mom just loved her to bits... Now she hasn't seen the dog in 8-10 months... but I was surprised at her memory lossl

Mom did enjoy feeding her crackers and holding her leash on the walk. I was really glad that I'd thought to bring Woody with me...

When you think about it my Dog and my Mom are both elderly.. Woody was so good, quiet and didn't even jump up on anybody unless they encouraged her to come up onto the couch.

We are getting a consult with a Cardiac Specialist in the near future. So I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will be good news.

Home alone tonight DH is out playing Guitar... so I thought I'd putz around on the computer a bit tonight and STAY OUT of trouble.

OK, so tonight DH and I went to Chilies. We had to wait to be seated and since the place is small we couldn't help but watch as other ppl got their food. Oh, things looked really good--pasta, huge hanburgers, onion rings, chips, . . .but I didn't feel "tempted" by any of it. I had made up my mind that my "splurge" was going to be a bowl of chicken enchallada Soup. It was wonderful. Just the right amount to satisfy. it was 440 calories, but that's ALL I had. No Marguritas, no chips, no desert. Phy's absolutely right. It's not about giving in to temptations, it's about making choices.

Phyl, I hear you about the rain/hail/snow thing. It's about 40 degrees here too, but the wind is raw--right off Lake Michigan. This is the time of year I really envy you folks who have spring--leaves on trees and flowers blooming. Our little daffodills are maybe 2 inches tall, and they're freezing! I never did buy into the global warming theory. IMHO, it's just another way for some ppl (i.e. Mr Gore) to make money.

Peaches--so sorry to hear about the terrible care your mom is getting from her doctor. Good for you for advocating for her. Keep up the good work. I don't know how health care works in Canada, but I'd be seriously looking for another doctor.

Janet--You are a very good mom. You are loving but honest with your kids. You set limits and enforce them. That's what a good parent does. It's just hard when your grandchildren are involved. I'm sure you want the best for them and so sometimes you have to indulge the parent to protect the child. I hope you're having a good time with your friend tonight. Looking forward to hearing about it.

Well, my scale is stalled yet again. Never mind. I'm pressing onward! I did buy some size 12 shorts at TJ Maxx today in anticipation of our Mexico trip next month. They're snug, but I can wear them! (My legs are actually thin, but saggy-baggy.) I also got some new summer PJ's (size large!) considering that we have a lot of overnights comming up.

LInda; Thanks, I am getting an appt. with A Cardiologist in the NEAR future. I'll feel so much better getting an opintion from him. Canada Health care is free, but the waits can be frustrating and the CHOICES of who you see are not always there. Family Doctors (PCP) for instance, in some cities they are so rare that if you FIND a PCP you don't dare switch because most doctors practices are CLOSED and won't take any new patients. So if you get a crappy Dr. you are kinda stuck. Or you can use a walk-in clinic but you don't get any continuity of care. And with an elderly patient on 25 diff. meds a day no-0ne wants to 'touch' her case.

The family doc. that I currently have I only got because I am good friends with the Secretary in the Medical office. My former Doc. died suddenly and I was without someone for a while.

We have to pay for Eye examinations ($80) all of our medications, unless you are 65+ and then they are free.

You have to pay for all your dental

But you can go to any hospital ER and be treated, you just have to wait sometimes 8 hours to be seen, and then there may NOT be beds to admit you into... Once after a stroke my Mom was in a HAllway for 10 days before the hospital found her a bed. That was a few yrs ago but it was aweful and the nurses are run off their feet.

If you need a hip replacement, knee... it is a 3 mos. wait for surgury ,after you consult with the surg. that says you NEED it. ANd for Cancer patients - its just aweful... wait times for chemo, radiation and then you have to travel a distance to go to a specialized cancer hospital...

Best to stay healthy!!! That was one of my biggest considerations in getting the lap band... I don't want to end up with Diabetes, High Bp or Heart disease (all run in the family) the writing was on the wall. And after seeing what my Mom's been thru - lets just say it was a wake up call.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

    • BeanitoDiego

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
