Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Kathy- are you able to tolerate spicy foods? Im really afraid to try at this point. I had meatballs with a little Tomato sauce tonight and it is bothering me a little.

Only, I can tolerate spicy food just fine. But I always have loved it, so if I couldn't have it, I would be rather upset.

Hello all!!!! So sorry I haven't been posting lately. Just been busy. I am officially in bandster hell!!!!!!!!!! I am so wanting my fill now!! I won't be going until Sept 5. I feel like I can eat ANYTHING!! I haven't tried everything because honestly I am afraid to thank GOD!!! If it weren't for the 'fear' I think I would be eating and eating and eating non stop. I am so hungry. I have a hard time limiting myself right now with the things that I CAN eat. The surgeonss PA told me that I shouldn't be alarmed if I am eating more than a cup right now because I have NO restriction but I want to do this right from the start. I know I have over eaten a few times and felt that discomfort feeling. UUUGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH I tell you what that fill could not be any more welcome than it is now. I get so frustrated sometimes!!!!:phanvan

Lynette - I made the chicken salad yesterday. The whole family loved it.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem......I can't go.

I'm miserable. I have been taking benefiber for 2 days, no help.

I just bought some high Fiber Cereal. I'll eat it every day for Breakfast.< /p>

Can a person live taking MOM for maybe life?? Ohhhh Whoaaaa is me.

mango- I bought some benefiber today. Hoping that will help because I am having the same 'problem'. Miserable feeling. Can't wait til things start 'moving along' again. Sorry if TMI

Ok, I'm having a difficult time now as well. When I was away, I really had no choice on what to eat, so I tried to be good. Now that I'm home, I can't seem to get back to the recommended eating plan, which would be mushies. My brain keeps telling me... well it worked for the weekend, why not.

In fact, today my DH and I went out for sushi, which I'm sure is a big no no. The fish is fine, but all that rice is not good. Plus, I ate well over the amount I should be eating. This no restriction thing is bothersome. I know I shouldn't eat more than a few oz, but my band is letting me, so I do. I've got to shake this off!!!

Tomorrow I'm going to try to stick to my plan!!!!

Kethy- I am right there with you girl just as most of us are now. Gosh I wish I could get a fill at 4 weeks instead of 6. Right now I am trying to focus on maintaining what I have lost and not regaining rather than gaining. It is really hard to do but I think I will drive myself batty the other way. LOL After we all get our fills the world will be a better place again.:girl_hug: Hang in there!!!

Aunty Phil- Sorry your husband is watching every move you make. My husband hasnt made any comments but I do notice that he is watching. Im trying to figure out why, Im not sure if he is just very curious or he is concerned. I dont think he is doing it to be controling. I agree with Kathy- tell him outright to back off a bit. That this is your journey and you have to be the one in control of it. Sometime some people think they are helping by the comments they make but they are actually making things more difficult. Go out to dinner for your anniversary, Celebrate this time in your life, but talk to him before you go. Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!

Auntie phyl- so glad to hear you are enjoying your camping. Sorry to hear about DH. Ditto on what the other girls said. Just try to talk to him and let hom know how you feel. Take care!

Kathy- are you able to tolerate spicy foods? Im really afraid to try at this point. I had meatballs with a little Tomato sauce tonight and it is bothering me a little.

Kathy I loved spicy food before banding. Have always been the one who says 'the hotter the better' but since surgery I just can't handle it. Can't even use much pepper on my food for flavor. Burns my mouth!!

Lynette, Chim, Sunny, Kathy, Dini, Laurend, and everyone else ...

HI ALL!!!! Hope everyone is doing well and on track to a new life!!!! Anybody having trouble with retaining Water and swollen hands and feet????????????? YIKES, I sure am!!! Hands feel like anchors, lol!!!!!!!!!! Hurts to type!!!!

Jeanie- I love your new picture!!! Sounds like you are soooo busy right now getting ready to go back to school. I know you are dreading it but I have to tell you I am counting down til the day the kids go back. It is time. They are bored out of there minds!!!

I had a great day today. I love being on vacation. I started my day with a really good Protein Shake, which held me over all morning. My DH and I went golfing... first time since the surgery. I didn't do well, but my DH did worse!!!!!!

Ate some yogurt and cheese for a snack and then had beef and Beans from the inside of a quesidilla for lunch. Now I'm getting dinner ready.

I feel like i did much better today and its made me feel more in control.

I have had a few bouts of loose BM's over the last week. Sort of comes on for an hour or so, and then resolves itself. Kind of weird. Anyone else having this happen?

Anna - You crack me up! In my house if you don't eat leftovers, you just don't eat! I can't afford to be making/buying "fresh" food for every meal! With all those kids...you should teach them to cook, so you're out of the kitchen and then they can learn portion sizes/control. It has really helped with my 7 year old....

only4me, yes they are infomercial DVD's. I love it because it's fun, and the lady walks you through all the steps slowly in a learn and burn session at the beginning. You can research it at beachbody.com. I have a friend that's going to try to copy her Hip Hop Abs for me. I also have the Biggest Loser workout DVD, but don't like it as much at the Turbo Jam.

Kathy, sound like you're getting back on track. Are you drinking more liquids now? Could be the cause of your "loose"times.

Jackie, you sound like everyone else just waiting for your fill. It will come soon, just like the surgery did. Hang in there.

Marcy, same here with the leftovers. I always end up taking them for lunch the next day, but I am learning to freeze any right away, as they can always be re-heated in the microwave easily. I must say this is bad, but when my step kids come over everyother other weekend, I end up feeding some to them for lunches. They didn't have them the first time around, so I guess they can't be leftovers to them,LOL!!

Kathy, my DH wants a bike too, and I just keep telling him 'no', but because I went through a bad ordeal with my ex and his accident. He wants me to ride on the back, and I just laugh. All I keep thinking is that he weighs about 150, and he probably can't even hold that bike up with me on it. Maybe things will change when I reach my goal.

Laurend, you were not stubborn, you were probably just doing what your body was telling you to do, stop eating. Just think, this world might not be as obese as it is if we were not all forced to eat food we didn't want at a young age. This has probably stayed with many of us through the years. I just hope by doing this surgery, others will learn from this, and stop forcing food on little ones when their young.
Oh no, believe me, I was being stubborn. Even if I was still hungry, if I didn't like the food on my plate (beans, hamburger, brussells sprouts, etc), I would flat out refuse to eat it. My parents told me that I could either eat the food or sit there, so I sat there until they gave in.

I was stubborn too. The rule for us was that if we didn't finish our dinner by bedtime, it was served up to us for Breakfast the following morning. lunch if we didn't finish it then. Dinner that night if it still was left. I was so stubborn one time that I went for days without food just to prove I was NOT going to eat liver! And this was in the days before we had microwaves, so any leftovers were either stone cold or dehydrated from reheating in the oven.

There were always plenty of stories about how children in third world countries would be more than happy to eat what was put in front of us. Food was often be used as a form of punishment for us. "Off to bed with you without any dinner." It's probably where many, MANY of my issues with it started.

So I went to the other extreme when I got older and was out on my own by using it as a reward. I ate what I wanted to eat, when I wanted to. But I've never been able to shake myself of the "empty plate" mentality that was driven into me as a child. We didn't have a lot of money, so we couldn't afford to just throw out what we didn't want to eat. And I just can't bring myself to do that now. Fortunately eating leftovers has never been an issue for any of us. I just need to learn to cook smaller portions and find smaller containers that will hold 3 or 4 spoonfuls of food. I don't HAVE to eat it all in one sitting like I've been doing all along. And I certainly don't need to be cleaning off someone else's plate.

Me, too. I would absolutely refuse to eat it. Like you, I would just sit there. Eventually, my mom would give me s'thing else. But I seriously would not eat it. I used to hate any kind of fish, mac & cheese, ...I was a very picky eater.

God help me when it's time to have my own children!!!

Frustrated- That sounds like that scene in the movie from "Mommie Dearest"--The movie about Joan Crawford- when her daughter wouldnt eat the rare meat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lynette and Marcinak-Dont get me wrong--I love leftovers, Im usually the one to take them the next day for lunch, but since I just started mushies on Monday--this is all left over from last week. I have to start realizing that I have to cook less food- but I grew up in an italian household where more was better--God forbid you ran out of food before someone was stuffed. There was no such thing as portions- your portion size was whatever made you feel like you could no longer breath after a meal. I am trying so hard with my kids (especially with my youngest daughter- who is in the 90% for both hight and weight)

what a portion size is. They look at me like Im crazy when I show them what a 1/2 cup of icecream is or that 2 Cookies are a portion.

The one thing that I am also going to have to change is that "I want to feed the word" attitude. When company comes over, I overdue it, when my kids friends come over, I am putting out the chips, Cookies, soda. When my kids (the teenagers) are going through something- I want to take them out for Icecream. I have got to not have my life center around food.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
