Ruby - sorry to hear about your "sliming".....it sounds real uncomfortable and gives me a big "heads up" about NOT overeating....thanks for sharing!!

Ruby - I TOLD you all about the sliming...no one listens...maybe it's good that you had that experience, that way you KNOW what you don't want to happen ever again! Because I give my scraps to the chickens, I don't have to worry about cleaning the plate!

Phyl and Kathy - thanks for bringing up DH issues and how to handle it. My sweet man questions A LOT about what I'm eating and how much. I explained the other day that it would be more helpful to me to have praise for the things I have accomplished instead of pointing out things that (honestly, I'm already aware of) are bad for me.

This was recently brought up...did anyone else grow up with the "finish your plate" mentality? :hungry: My sister and I were having a conversation about when mom would buy Cookies or "good" Cereal when we were younger and we'd eat as much as we could, as fast as we could for fear that there wouldn't be any to enjoy later (because everyone else is doing the same thing). Now, we actually laugh that there is birthday cake that needs to be thrown out because it's been sitting on the counter too long...no fear anymore, we know that it can either be replaced or that there will be some later if we want. :biggrin1:Gee, did that make any sense?

The sun is sort of out today, maybe I'll go for a walk? Went to Transformers yesterday with the boys...it was "Thuper Awethome!" I love watching my kids enjoy stuff!:girl_hug:

Aunt Phyl, it was so good to hear from you. Sorry your DH is on your eating style, but we've only just began this journey, so you need to tell him to back off a little because this could go on for years, and you don't want it to. Happy Anniversary, and many more!!

Kathy, you'll get back on track, especially once you get back to work.

yummieT, welcome to the Lucky 7's.

malaura, have your tried the low fat or fat free milk. It's not too bad. Sorry I can't help you out with the incision pain as I've not had any in a while, since the surgery.

jeanie, love the pic. How cool is that.

frustrated, thanks for sharing your story. I'm a member of that clean your plate club, and I too have to just get used to throwing food away. Let it go to "waste", and not our "waist",LOL!!

So my little guy is doing better today. He was so sick last night, but don't know what from. Oh well, glad it's over.

I did get in about 10 minute of arm weights before he stated getting sick, and this morning my Turbo Jamming paid off. I finally broke my 212 and weighed in at 111.6 this morning. Yes, I needed the pick me up.

Ruby

Thanks for telling your sliming story. I hope to God that it nevers happens to me. When we let each other know whats happening to us, especially in instances like this, it helps us to be reminded not to do certain things. Your story will serve as a lesson to all of us to realize that when we've had enough we need to stop or our bands will make us stop.

I grew up with the "finish your plate" mantra being said over and over again at dinner when I was a child. We weren't allowed to get up from the table until everything on the plate was gone. I remember my cousins and friends would be outside playing and I still had rice and peas on my plate so I couldn't join them. Now that I'm an adult, I struggle with letting someone take my plate from me or anyone else I'm having dinner with when something is left on it. This is so ingrained in me and eventhough I'm conscious of it, I still have a hard time dealing with the feelings that are attached to it. I'm going to attempt to describe the feelings I get...I know I feel a weird kind of frustration that makes me want to wring my hands and a feeling of being wasteful and arrogant (that may not be totally correct but I can't think of a better phrase...Whats a good word or phrase to describe being wasteful and arrogant in a "Paris Hilton" sort of way?) Then when I do finish the food on my plate I feel contented but then thats quickly followed by regret or remorse. These last 2 feelings happen when I cheat on a diet too. All this mental space is being used on some dag on food!!

I can't bare to see food thrown out. If I can't finish a meal (which I'm sure will happen everytime time I go out now for dinner) I ask the waiters to wrap up the leftovers. The leftovers remind me of my night out when I go to eat it later.

45 minutes on the treadmill. I only felt like to doing 30 but I forced the extra 15 minutes in there because it was part of my plan today.

Hi Gang - Just catching up on my lunch hour...

Phly - This is one of the reasons I am glad not to have a DH.. But for 43 yr hell ya you need to Celebrate - I couldn't make 3 yrs (twice same guy ;0) and what food you don't eat he can eat or you can take homed.

Chim - Hot wash cloth or bath for the pain and to reduce the swelling, add some fat to your diet and Water water water.

Ruby - Sorry for the Slime - me to just one more bite - I don't have a fill yet - but I hope I know when to stop when i do.. One little rhyme i learned in WW - better in thee (trash) than in Me... I use this still today..

Marcy - My Brothers & I would do that with a bowl of cheeto's - who would get more than the other:hungry:

Jeanie - My blood pressure meds have water pill - so I am lucky no water here - but they always tell you to drink more wate to get rid of it - doesn't make sense but who am i :phanvan

Sunny- popcorn? ? As long as it wasn't loaded with butter, calorie wise you should be ok..

Kathy - I ate cheese enchillada this weekend, 2 for dinner and grazed on the other 2.. No wonder i am not losing but 1 lbs a week:faint:..

I was told that I was most likely under-estimating my calories - so Sunday I bought a scale (digital) that gives you calories - Protein - etc - I think it was a good investment (was a little pricey) - I weighed out my fish & chicken - been weighting watermelon, veggies etc. I am trying to keep calories at 1000 - 1200... It's hard... My goal this week is to walk 2 miles 4 - 5 this week (did it Sat & yesterday)

As far as shopping - i am buying too much. Once I took the 3 packages of fish and 1 chick and weighted it out i have enought for 3 weeks... And veggies - my eyes have always been bigger than my tummy. I guess i am afaired i am going to starve - yea right got enough reserve to feed an army :girl_hug:

Just had salad with tuna - light ranch dressing and tummy letting me know bathroom break coming up - my tmi is that i too have diarrah about once a week but the rest of the time is soft, never hard - but i think i get enough fat - (maybe too much).

Ok it's almost one - gotta get back to work - Talk to ya'll later.

Janet

I'm sure you all realize I meant to type 211.6. If I was 111.6, I wouldn't be here,LOL!!

ssankofa, I know the feelings you're describing. My thing was i I didn't eat my dinner, I didn't get Desserts. Maybe that's why I have such a sweet tooth, or shall I say, teeth cause there's more than one of them!!

I always got the story, "there's children starving in Ethiopia that would make a whole days meal out of what you have left on your plate" I'm getting better. I startd doing this with my son, but no more. If he's not hungry, then his plate sits at the table until he goes to bed. At least then, he has a chance later to eat it, and if not, he gets no sweets, only fruit or cheese, something healthy.

Jeanie, love your new pic! Hope all is going well for you. I'm sure you're pretty busy getting prepped for the new school year! No Water retention probs here, but constipation...that's another story.

Frustrated, Oh no!!! I never want to experience sliming or pbing.

Caz, go you! Compliments certainly help us on this journey, huh? My co-workers, family, and friends have been amazingly positive post-op. I'm so happy for you!

Tenille, horrible feeling, isn't it? Things have been getting a little better for me here...but goodness. I've vowed to not get like that again.

Marcy, I know about The Clean Plate Club. What a mindshift for us. But, we will do it. I have no doubt...unless we want to enjoy pbing! LOL.

Lynette, hey sweetie! Glad to hear Hunter is doing better. I always feel so bad when little ones are sick. They can't really express what's going on. Congrats on breaking that plateau! What a feeling, right?

I was an incredibly stubborn child. I sat at the dinner table for hours more than once, just because I refused to finish my food. But yeah, I still have lots of problems with leaving food on my plate. I feel guilty if I don't finish, and it makes me eat until I am very uncomfortable.

Hello Buds...

I too hate to leave food on the plate. I was never forced to eat everything on my plate, but somehow managed to get that mentality somehow.

I also am cooking as if I am eating......I am so overcooking, I have so much leftovers in the fridge. I have a husband, 4 kids and my mother who lives with me. I am still cooking like there is an army to feed. And my kids hate leftovers!! So I have to clean out my fridge and throw out so much food (its killing me) Last night I made 2 lbs of meatballs!!! I realized what I did after baking them. So I took 1/2 of what I cooked and froze them without sauce so my family wont know the next time I need meatballs that they were leftover.

Right before my surgery, I went to a local support group and I met a woman who lost over 100lbs in a little over a year and has kept if off now for a year. She strongly recomended that I get a small plate (salad plate) and use that from now on. It is helping, however, I am really portion controlling everything, and my family is in the habbit of scraping their plates in the garbage and placing them in the sink when they get up from the table.

Laurend, you were not stubborn, you were probably just doing what your body was telling you to do, stop eating. Just think, this world might not be as obese as it is if we were not all forced to eat food we didn't want at a young age. This has probably stayed with many of us through the years. I just hope by doing this surgery, others will learn from this, and stop forcing food on little ones when their young.

I did it again, Turbo Jammimg away in my living room with my son. He loved it yesterday, and today he told me he wanted to excercise, so we did it again, about 35 minutes. I'm on a roll!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
