Kathybad 0 Posted August 14, 2007 Ok, I'm having a difficult time now as well. When I was away, I really had no choice on what to eat, so I tried to be good. Now that I'm home, I can't seem to get back to the recommended eating plan, which would be mushies. My brain keeps telling me... well it worked for the weekend, why not. In fact, today my DH and I went out for sushi, which I'm sure is a big no no. The fish is fine, but all that rice is not good. Plus, I ate well over the amount I should be eating. This no restriction thing is bothersome. I know I shouldn't eat more than a few oz, but my band is letting me, so I do. I've got to shake this off!!! Tomorrow I'm going to try to stick to my plan!!!! mango24 1 Posted August 14, 2007 Chim - I think it's a combination of no Fiber and no fat. I wonder if a spoon of olive oil a day would help.

Kathybad, I hear you! BANDSTER HELL...no fun at all!!! There are many of us here w/you. Just brush yourself off, and look to tomorrow. You'll stick to your plan. I know you will! It's just during this healing phase...once we get restriction, we'll be happier campers.
phyllser 3 Posted August 14, 2007 Hi, Gang, We are still "camping" in our RV. The first three days the weather was less than impressive but today it was a beautiful day in the Pacific NW. We went for a scenic drive this morning that was lovely. THEN, we stopped for lunch. I have to VENT!! My DH is a control freak. I have been grateful for his "help" fixing my food, including measuring it diligently so that I don't have more than 1/2 cup. But when we go out to eat and he can't control the portions I am being served he does not trust me to make an intelligent decision about how much to eat... how much is 1/2 cup. I really do have some restriction even though I haven't yet had my first fill. I get uncomfortable if I try to eat more than 1/2 cup. We went to a seafood restaurant. I wanted to try the seafood chowder, tomoato based, then have some steamed halibut. He could not shut up about what I was ordering and then made an inappropriate comment about me going through all the trouble of having this surgery and now I'm going to blow it!! I was so mad I coudn't see straight. By the time I got my lunch ordered I had to leave the table and go to the rest room for a melt down. When my food came, I only ate a few bites of the chowder because he was on my case about how much I was going to eat. I finally just gave it to him and waited for my halibut. I ate half of that and took the rest back to the RV for later. I probably had a little more than 1/2 cup, but less than a full cup... maybe 3/4 cup. And I did feel uncomfortable for a while, but I'd never tell him that!! Wed. is our 43rd wedding anniversary and I told him I do NOT even want to go out for dinner. We'd planned to go somewhere special, but I'm not going to put up with those antics again. Anyone else having trouble with a spouse trying to control everything??? I told him he needs to let me do this!! Sorry!! I really needed to vent!! :cry :cry :faint: :help:
chimboree26 24 Posted August 14, 2007 Chim - I think it's a combination of no fiber and no fat. I wonder if a spoon of olive oil a day would help. Mango, I think you're right about the no fiber and no fat. I've never heard that about olive oil. You think it'll get things moving?
Kathybad 0 Posted August 14, 2007 Auntie Phyl, It's so nice to hear from you. I'm glad you're enjoying your camping trip. Sorry your DH is giving you trouble. Mine is pretty good, but every once in awhile he raises an eyebrow. Your DH is probably very concerned and wants you to succeed. He probably thinks he is helping you and doesn't understand how much it annoys you. You've been married for 43 years... be staight with him and ask him to back off. It worked for me. I told my DH right at the start "I don't need you to tell me what to eat or what not to eat. I want your support, but not your guidance. I need your support to be silent on the food and strong on the praise." This is working pretty well. So when I see the raised eyebrow, I just remind him of the conversation, and all is well. Good Luck.
mango24 1 Posted August 14, 2007 Chim - I'm trying 1tsp Olive oil tomorrow, it's not a lot of cals. and your supposed to have the right fats. Aunty Phil - sorry about Mr. Bossy. Maybe he's just scared if you do something wrong you'll hurt yourself. Maybe he's just worried. My husband never says a word about my weight or what I eat. He knows better. If Mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy.
Kathybad 0 Posted August 14, 2007 Mango, instead of olive oil, how about fish oil. It's loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids, which is great for you. You can get it as a supplement in any store, or you can eat it by having salmon with the skin on, and each the fattier part. Olive oil is good for you too in small quantities, but fish oil is a lot better.
