Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

NewCC~ I am so sorry your husband isn't being more supportive. Like you said he has little emotion and honestly a lot of men don't show as much emotion as we would like. I know for a week before my surgery my husband seemed to be acting weird to me. If you feel you need to, call your very best friend and talk to them and tell then what is going on. Maybe that will help you feel better and a bit more supported.

As for your parents, you have to do what feels best for you. The last thing you need is for them to be unsupportive or against this so if you feel that is the response you'll get, then as hard as it might be, I'd wait to tell them.

Easier said than done, but try not have any fears of not waking up. You will be fine! I know it seems so scary going into it, but really it isn't. You'll go in, they'll give you the IV and put some anasthesia in it and the next thing you know, you'll be waking up. That is all I remember. I don't even remember being wheeled away.

Just relax and remember you are doing this for you. This will be your new birthday. You have a whole family here on Lapbandtalk who are here to support you! :car:

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Thanks Auntie!! I really am getting all the worries, what if I'm the one in a thousand that doesn't wake up? I have 3 great boys, 15,13 and 10. I stopped working the day the first was born. What if something goes wrong....I didn't tell my parents because they make such a giant deal about food/weight. They are both thin, but it's because my mom is anexoric for the whole world. But they are my parents, should I have said something "just in case?????" And husband (no D tonight) won't talk. Cry, Cry. CC

NewCC, pre-anxiety jitters are common, you will be fine. And I too find that people who are not on our shoes just don't get it. They never have, they never will, despite their good intentions. That's why support groups are so important, and why I am so so so very grateful to have found you'all, because you know the pain, the anguish, the worry, the guilt, all that comes with being obese and trying to change our lives 180o. It's not easy, but ultimately you know what's best for you, so just follow your gut instincts and everything will be alright. And give yourself permission to be a little selfish, to think of just you for a change, you- WE- need that. We all spend so much time caring and worrying about others ( have you noticed how many nurses, teachers and moms we have here?) we forget about ourselves. Put yourself first, and move on proud to be doing something good for YOU.

I totally hear you! I was over-joyed at the dr.'s office today, and DH, who is slim, could not understand my excitment. I literally jumped up and down ( after we were by ourselves in the little room) and whooped. What a great feeling. And, I went to Curves today and could finally do one of the stretches exercises the way it's supposed to be done, with all parts contorting themselves, touching each other etc...great feeling.

Yeah, we rock :car:

I hear you. My hubby isn't that thin, but I only weigh 9 pounds more than he does right now, so it's actually so close to me weighing less than he does. I can't wait!!

Great job at Curves!! I'm starting to work with a personal trainer tomorrow, so I'll be working on flexibility and all that fun stuff too!!

Talk to you soon,

Nichole:clap2::clap2::clap2:

Thank you for the support. I am calming down. I don't usually freak out. You are all right - I will be glad I've done it and I do know why I chose this proceedure. My very best friend is going through a terrible time with a daughter with AML. We did talk today and with everything going on (it's beyond hard) she is totally supportive. I just can't bug her much right now - and she is at a hospital across the country!

Not crying anymore. I will go love on my kids! Thanks guys!! Thank you thank you thank you!! CC

Kathy - you will be fine!! I think some of the pre-op diets are totally unrealistic and I think we are lucky to be able to even stay 6 days, like you did. Thankfully I only have 7 days, but I get shakes during the day and a small lean cusine for dinner, but it's a big HUGE drop from my usual daily intake and I'm tired of starving.......so I can empathize with you. Good luck tomorrow......

NewCC - I bet there hasn't been one person who hasn't felt like you are....I know that I'm working up to my day and I feel the anxiety BIG TIME......I've never had any surgery and I keep asking myself why I would volunteer to have surgery. But I know it's what I need to do to live longer and enjoy life. You will see that too! Good luck......

Hey guys! I have a question, is anyone else having difficulty sleeping b/c of the pain, I usually last a few hours and then the pain wakes me up. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

Dmtjet, I am right here, back from Curves. It was so sweet, my friend who has been unsupportive brought me flowers and a nightgown for me to wear to the hospital. I was touched. Cynical DH says it's her way of apologizing for being mean earlier. Either way, I am grateful we are patching things up.

Cazulay, I am happy for you! It makes a huge difference ... it's the little things that mean the most!!! Good for you!!! Tomorrow for you!!!! Wow, you must be getting the butterflies and anxiousness by now!!!! It won't be long now!!! Best wishes!!!:whoo:

Good luck to all being banded tomorrow - you are all in my prayers.

I envy you! When I am nervous or upset or can't figure something out ... no food is safe, lol!!!!:help:

Hi all. So I drove to Albuquerque yesterday afternoon (2 1/2 hours away) to fly to Phoenix and meet my hubby there. I had my first post op appointment today and it went great. My surgeons partner actually did the appointment, but I ran into my surgeon in the hallway on the way out. He looked at me and said he could see it in my face.

I was super excited because I finally broke the 240 mark, just barely, but I'm under that weight finally. I have just been elated all day because of that. I was feeling down after not losing anything for the last week and a half, but I did this morning, so that's the one that counts. That makes it 29 pounds for me since June 7th. :)

I have the new small AP band with the low profile port. I still have some pain in my port, but it's more of an annoyance than anything. And it mostly comes when I've been sleeping on my stomach. My Dr said this was normal and it will probably be like that for 6-8 weeks.

The other thing I learned from the dietitian today is even if I am eating what I'm supposed to every day and working out that until I get my first fill in 4 more weeks(although it will actually be my 2nd fill since they put a fill in these new bands during surgery), I probably won't lose anything. So for those of you in the same boat I am, this explains it. It's not that you are eating too much, it's just that the restriction we may ultimately need is not there.

Anyways, one more good thing that happened was on the plane yesterday. I still felt big, but when I put the seatbelt on, I almost jumped back up. I've normally had maybe an extra inch or so on the belt and never pulled it to tighten it because it would make it to tight. However, last night, I had about 8 inches on the seatbelt. I was so excited, and it's really helped my mood!!

I can't believe how much I missed today as far as chats go, but we were driving back from Phoenix (about 5 hours).

I hope everyone's surgery went well today and I'm praying for everyone this week that surgeries go well and that your recovery goes quickly without too much pain!!

Love you all, this group is great!!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

~Nichole

Nichole, Wow, you are doing awesome!!! You have lost more than me, as I seem to be stuck at a 14 pound loss! I am sooo happy for you!!!:)

A few days ago I posted about being afraid I wouldn't get banded since I cheated on my pre op diet, too. I think my post kind of got lost and overlooked, though. It was the day before my surgery, too. Well, I was banded yesterday and the doc said everything went great. I am sure you will be fine. I look forward to reading your post op update soon! Good luck!

Hey, Congrats to you!!! Hope your feeling well!

Phyllser, I was told the coughing is good to release all that anesthesia. I was told to do that, especially after taking deep breaths and they gave me a deep breath device that after using, I had to make myself cough. So should be okay!!! Hope you are feeling well today!

IndioGirl55~I totally agree that tuna is healthier. I don’t understand why they say it is a no no still. Total bummer. I mean I guess they have their reasons. I am one of those paranoid ones, that follows what I am told to do cuz I really don’t want to get sick. I am also a total product of Murphy’s Law, if it can go wrong it will. So I am sad to say that I am going to be safe and hold off on the tuna until I see my Dr. next Wednesday and hopefully then get the ok for tuna! Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated!

Dmtjet~ Thanks I’ll have to try the vanilla custard one. I am sure your new nephew will greatly appreciate your leftovers! I don’t know about the prunes, but I’ll try the Hawaiian Delight.

Kathybad~ Good luck, you’ll do great!<img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/girl_hug.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Girl Hug" smilieid="152" class="inlineimg" />

Cazulay~ Glad to see you and your friend patched things up before your surgery!

OnMyWay07~ Glad everything went ok. I know I cheated a little bit and it didn’t hurt anything. My doctor said that everything was perfect, but I was so nervous going in that there would be a problem. I think they figure we all cheat a little bit!

Chim~ Can't wait to hear how you are doing! I've been thinking about you!

Good luck to all of Thursday's bandsters!

Heidi,

Wow, proud of you!!! You listen to the "T"!!! As it should be, but it is tough sometimes! Yeah, I don't mind prunes, but I know where you are coming from with that! Good to make the pipes work though, lol!!! Hope you are well today!

Feeling a bit alone here. Surgery is tomorrow, now moved to 8am. I hardly told anyone. Hate lying to my best friends. Anyway, mentioned to my husband that I was getting a little nervous. His answer "It's too late, just relax", grabs a piece of chocolate and leaves the room. maybe I should have gone with the friends for support. Usually he's great - but I do know he has little emotion and likes people to be difinitive. BUT OUCH. CC

NewCC, I think the jitters are normal!!! You will be fine and will not regret your decision!!! Talk to you soon!

bostonic, Yes, I think for awhile. A few nights weren't very comfortable and would definitely wake me up. I didn't notice your banding date, are you newly banded?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
