Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Dini, my little Irish sis, I wrote a whole paragraph to you. I can't help it if it was further than 3 pages ago this is a busy board. But thinking about ya always.

Laurend!!! Welcome back. Nausea after anesthesia is common. So is tiredness. Sounds like you are doing great.

Jr. is my man as your can tell by my avatar, wearing the 8 hat at darlington. I didn't really care where he went as long as he is happy and can win some races. Jeff and jimmie are not my favorite but I don't hate them, I just don't root for them. I don't care where they finish as long as jr finishes ahead of them..:biggrin1:

Snaggletooth, bummer with your visit. Nothing like feeling achy and bloated when you are going to have surgery that makes you feel achy and bloated. Good luck with your surg.

Mommiranda, I will be thinking about you tomorrow.

And, of course, my idol, Lynette. You have really been a wealth of information for all of us. Thanks.:clap2:

Yay!!!! We're so glad to hear from you. It seems that you are doing very well. This is so encouraging!!! I get more and more excited w/each update! Are you in a lot of pain right now?
I'm definitely sore right now. My surgeon gave me prescriptions for Percacet and Phenergan (anti-nausea).

I have to say that the worst thing about the surgery was getting in and out of the bed afterwards. It's gotten a lot better since, but it HURT at first.

My surgeon is very liberal with her post-op diet, too. I didn't get to have anything but Water and ice chips on the day of my surgery. For Breakfast the next day, though, I got 2 ounces of diet Jello and 2 ounces of apple juice. For lunch, I got an ounce each of pureed squash, pureed rice, pureed chicken, and apple sauce. The pureed vegetables were actually really good (not sure if it was because they were good or just because I was hungry), but the chicken wasn't appetizing at all. It needed to be a lot more moist, because it seemed pretty dried and gritty. My surgeon also told me that if I started to get really hungry in the next several days, I can start on solids. Apparently, I didn't have a lot of fat around my stomach, so I probably won't have much restriction until I get a fill.

Laurend--It's good that you're out. Thanks for the pillow tip.

Another word about taking the easy way out. I've been thinking about people saying this, and I just can't get over how ridiculous it is. I think of it as taking the permanent way out. Look, if your pool were leaking, would you drain the whole thing, stick gum in the hole, and refill it just to have to repeat the process endlessly because your method just wasn't working for the long run, or would you have a professional come out and fix it once? Why should we have to stay on the diet, lose weight, gain weight treadmill forever? Why not just let a professional help us do it once and for all? Besides--as far as taking the easy way out goes--why do people use lawn mowers, and edgers, and automatic sprinklers, and blowers to make their lawns look nice? Because those are the right tools, and they make the job easier. Even if it were true that surgery is the "easy way out," why would that be wrong? You only have to rake a big lawn once to know taking the easy way out and buying a blower is pure common sense.

My surgery isn't scheduled until the afternoon at 1:30pm. The thought of going that long without food AND liquids is daunting. It wouldn't be so bad if I could have a sip of Water or something throughout the day. :)

The hospital where I'm have the surgery done called today. It's about a 2 minute drive up the road! YAY! I asked them how long it would be before I could go home after the surgery, she seemed to think not until the next day *boo*hiss* I'm hoping I can skip the overnight stay but won't rush myself out the door too soon. Goodness only knows what impact that may have on my insurance claim! I've run the gauntlet enough with them these past several months that I really DON'T need to go there again anytime soon.

*mutter*mutter*grumble*mumble*

think positive thoughts.... positive thoughts..... positive thoughts

Wow, Laurend! That's great!

On another note, I was updated some files and starting my journal. Do you know I started this process in Dec. 2005????!!!! Then my 6 mos. follow-ups and all the other tests, not too mention the INSURANCE runaround!!!! Isn't that sad?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
