Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Good morning ladies! Hope you all have a great Friday.

Karla, that quilt shop sounds like an amazing idea. I don't know if the area you are in is big into quilting but I think it would be WONDERFUL. Scrapbooking shops are sometimes like that so I'm sure a quilt shop would be awesome.

Phyl, we will miss you. I wish I was going with. I love the thought of going on a cruise. Just wish I could talk Jeff into it. He's such a "someday" kinda guy. Maybe when we finally reach retirement age. Have fun shopping. And tell Earl if you don't have a second suit case, you'll either have to buy one on the cruise or he'll have to carry all your bags. Leave it up to him.

My feet feel better today. The blister that was on my left foot is not there anymore. I'm still going to get something to pad it when I walk today. I'm not sure how far I will go, but we'll see. I'm going to start walking twice on Tues and Thurs. while the little ones are at daycare. I can go in the morning on my own. I'm going to throw in a little running with it. I'm sure to begin with it will be run a block, walk 3....but hopefully I'll be building up my stamina and soon I'll be able to say I can run a mile. I was hoping to run the 5k that I walked last year, but found out that it is on the same weekend that my niece is coming from Texas and I won't be here. That's frustrating. I'll have to find a different one to run this summer.

The suckers are for fundraising for my 3day. My darlings at my old school have been buying them. I left a bunch in Lincoln at my brother's restaraunt, and I gave a bunch to one of my teammates. I enjoy making them. Something sweet that I can make and don't want to eat.

Today I need to cleanup my speech for tomorrow. I'm starting to freak out about it but as long as I stay busy I'll be fine. I think I'm going to go downtown and see if I can find a dress in their class colors. So much to do, and no motivation to do any of it.

I suppose if I got out of this chair it would help. I'll talk to you ladies later, I'm sure. Have a great day.

Oh....Candice. Starting Monday we'll wii. Anyone else want in?

Okay...NOW I'm off.

Yep, now we get to fill the pages for Phyl. But didn't she get a laptop from her daughter? She'll take it along, do LBT and her and Earl's farms. Can you see her being away from that for a weeK/

Karla - Hope things work out with that kid. I remember once when I was subbing (middle school) I overheard a girl call me a bitch. I just turned around and said "if you think I'm a bitch now, just keep it up and I'll show you a bitch>" I got called on the carpet for that one. I just refused to go back while that A#**# was principal. Principals need to support their teachers, not kiss the parent's a$$.

No more dial up for us. Got high speed and I love it. Now I won't eat because I'm so frustrated. Of course, it gets me off the computer so I can eat. Catch 22. Oh Well.

Phyl, have fun on your cruise. Don't forget to pack warm clothes. It's only May.

Did Stephanie, just make a suggestion....I cruise for the Lucky Sevens???? Ohh, I could get into that. I'd have to save for a year, but I think we could really have a blast. Especially if we have Phyll in charge since she is the world traveler. My only requirement...can we go on a cruise that does NOT allow 7th graders of any gender or species???? Let's see where would we go...Some where that has hot guys with little clothes AND like middle aged women?? Of course we couldn't go until I have found my hip bones. Phyll have a great time and tell Earl he will be buying another suitcase for the trip home.

It is Friday and I don't work tomorrow!! Karri, I know I probably missed you, but just in case...enjoy your weekend of wilderness. Personally it isn't the bears that scare me, it is the bugs that suck your blood or crawl in your hair, or even worse...go in your ears. I KNOW there has to be a bug that does that....Yep I am a science teacher and I hate bugs.

So here are today's list of questions:

Does it quit hurting??? I have no problems with my morning coffee, but anything else... Well that isn't exactly true..after a couple of hours I can drink my Protein smoothie. I tried my watery oatmeal first and I could actually hear it gurgling through the band, and yep hurt like heck.

Today was the first time I have been starving since Tuesday. I was so hungry, that I had DD bring me pulverized tuna, avocado mushie. Ate it at about 1:00, man it tasted SO good, but it was about a cup. So explain this to me...how can you be so tight in the morning that liquids are tough and 6 hours later you can eat a cup of something. I know I should only be able to eat 1/2 cup. Is it because it is a mushie and that right now that is okay??? I guess I am trying to understand how to work with the band. So when you guys eat your chicken do you feel it stack up? or does it go through? Before the fill, I didn't feel anything as long as I chewed, I guess the food just moved through. If we want the food to stack up, why do we chew it so well? Am I getting pain because food is moving through? I finally got so hungry today that I chewed Jerky and spit it out.

Okay I'll leave it at that.

Tried to eat some dinner, didn't work. I ended up having mushy/soupy tuna. Frustrated. I know, it is still early...ended up crying. Doris is sitting on my shoulder.

I have a laptop, but I'm not taking it. Internet connection to expensive on the ship and I don't feel like lugging it around anyway. I have my Blackberry, but it seems like if you aren't actually going to each thread and signing in to LBT, the posts of emails stop coming. So I'll probably be able to read the posts for a day or two, but then they'll quit coming. I should be able to get on Facebook... but only when we're in port.

But that was my almost 87 yr old mother that just got a laptop for Mother's Day. We all chipped in for it. She's been using WebTV for several years, but she signed up for FB a couple of weeks ago (!), and then my niece showed her how it looked on a laptop, and that you could see everyone's photos, etc., then she decided she wanted a laptop. Then yesterday my sister and a Verizon Tech person far away in another country got her internet/DSL set up. So now she's not only got a laptop but she's high speed as well! :grouphug::biggrin::hurray:

Glad you finally got a fast connection!

Cruise... good idea for #7s! Mexican Riviera, like Janet took a couple of months ago, would be fun... and warm, and not too expensive.

I don't think you should be having pain when you eat. Maybe you're a little too tight. It does take some getting used to... until you figure out what you can eat when.

I'm tight in the morning... very small eggbeaters omelet is about all I can handle. But... what is really weird is that when.. once in a great while... we go out for breakfast... I don't seem to have a problem... eat a bit of an omelet, a little bit of hash browns, and maybe even 1/2 a toasted english muffin sometimes. It is the only time I use catsup with my breakfast... maybe that's why it all slides down so easy????? So... we'll see how it goes on the cruise... in my head, I am planning to eat Breakfast upstairs at the buffet. Then I can order a small eggbeaters omelet.. they'll probably have smoked salmon, mozarella cheese.< /span>

I usually have a hot latte before lunch... to loosen things up a bit. Then I have a small salad most days. dinner time is a little better. I can eat my 4 oz meat/fish and some veggies. The only time I ever have any pain is when I deserve it because I pushed it and ate more than I know I should have.

Okay... as for the third suitcase....Earl decided he wanted to take two bottles of wine with us for our room. Hopefully, it will not get confiscated during the boarding process. So, he had no choice but to take another small (very small) suitcase to accomodate two bottles of wine. So I think his clothes are wrapped around it. I'll have more control of the packing when it's time to come home, so I'll find room for my "shopping".

Hi there ladies. I hope you all had a good day.

No walking today. Jeff and I went shopping out of town instead. Not good on the munching on the road. That is one time that I can't seem to stop the hand to mouth. Maybe I should try to pop popcorn before I go and can munch on that. Maybe that will help me.

I'm starting to freak about my speech tomorrow. I tried to find something to wear at Walmart tonight....no luck. I guess teal isn't the color of the year. I finally picked something but I'm not crazy about it. Bought it, but if I find something I like better in my closet I'll take the stuff back. We'll see.

Karla, you'll get used to the feeling. You may be too tight but it may be just because it hasn't been that long. After every fill I have a whole new list of things I can't eat. Things I could before now I can't. It seems very crazy. There are a lot of physiological reasons why you are tighter in the mornings, but I can't remember what my team has told me. There is something about my band and stress though. And there are things I that I can eat at home but can't when we go out and others that I cant at home but can when I go out.

For the pain there are two things you need to stock up on pineapple juice and papaya tablets. Both act similar to draino. I keep pineapple juice at my house at all times...and papaya enzyme in every vehicle as well as my medicine cabinet.

We may have to think about a cruise like Janet went on. I love the idea....and Janet can show us the ropes and take us ziplining (says the baby who is scared of heights).

Okay...there were other things but I have to go to bed. I'll talk to you later. Love you ladies.

Phyll, I'm glad Earl saw the light and packed another bag. Enjoy your trip and stay safe. We will think of you while we are trapped at work and you are on the high seas, getting drinks from cute waiters with teeny tinny umbrellas. Have part of a waffle for me,,,a very small one, I am so craving a waffle with strawberries. I have lots of fruit and veggies that my mouth is watering for. have fun

PHYL

BON VOGAGE !!!! HAVE FUN !! and remember after our MofA trip Steph had to buy another suitcase to get home  and I came with an empty one for just that reason - room to bring home all the stuff I bought - I was lucky my suit case weighed 48 lbs - and 50 is the limit for the airplane without being charged more - cruise ships as far as I know don't have that limitation (weight) yet :0)

Candice - glad no dessert - you know what I did once when I had gf over for dinner - I bought 1 piece of lemon cake (the sell individual pieces at my Fresh & Easy and it had the least amount of calories) and I halfed it - so we each had a little dessert without being bad..

And yes those Fiber one bars and Protein Bars can be very dangerous - I have them for bf at work most day - they aren't sitting around my house - infact the other day in the afternoon I was hungry - ate 1/2 of one then threw the rest away before I ate it all so 75 cal instead of 150 !!!

Kari - I don't know how you lived w/o high speed before :0) - I guess we all have to take laptop to Candice's so that we can do our farming while we are gone that week :0)

Karla

We have talked about a lucky 7 cruise - but the problem is July is hurricane season - plus it's HOT AND HUMID in Mexico that time of year and you pple from the colder climates would absolutly die - I went to Mex 3 yrs ago in June - it was so humid - which wasn't that bad if the ocean hadn't been so hot - it's doable for me - but I am use to heat - we can plan it for next year or do it maybe ealier - and really I think most hurricanes hit mexico more in Sept...

I have a gf on my mentor thread who can't eat in the morning at all and by night can eat 10 oz steak.

This is one of the problems with the band -

The reason we chew so well is so that we can eat more than 1/4 of a cup and so that we don't get the Iron fist in the chest feeling or bp period.

IMHO we have to eat more that just 1 or 2 oz of Protein - I like being able to eat 1 to 1.5 cups of food and feeling full - I could not survive mentally eating only 1/2 cup per meal -

That iron fist is not being full but being stuck for me - I don't think the iron fist feeling is good for the band..

I gotta say that my diet consist of softer foods - but again I can eat bread which is hard for most banders - my dil left Bagels here - i pulled of a quater of one (they were the small ones 120 cal for the whole thing) put a little cream cheese on it - it went down no problem - guess where the bagels are now - in the trash !!!

Restriction is hard to get use to - eating a small amount of food is hard to get use to mentally... but again that's the reason for the band is to eat a smaller amount of food - but you have to be able to eat enough hard protein for your head and to lose the weight - or you will eat around your band (slider foods).

I really think you may be too tight since you couldn't eat a hard protein dinner - what did you try to eat ??

Yep our brains want wafles more than they want fruit - that's always been our problem... That's what we have to retrain...

Steph - Yep we all could go ziplinig !!! I would do it again !!!

Good luck w/your speech today - you will do fine once you get up there...

Ok gang - I came home last night ate popcorn watched my soap (All My Children) a major person is getting killed off and it's who done it cuz everyone wants him dead. Well then fell asleep after it - I haven't been sleeping well lately waking up 3 - 4 times a night - yesterday my siatic (sp) was hurting and lately in the morning when I wake up my lower back is killing me - but once i'm up and moving it's fine.

I last night I wanted to main line some sugar so I could sleep - but had some tyenol & liquid gold instead - only woke up 2 times and I went to bed at 9 - but was up at 5 - it's 6 24 right now started this post before 6 :scared2:

I have gym this morning but with trainer for legs - then when I go to gf house to pick her up to go shopping she has one of those hang upside down machines - I think I am going to try it for my back...

Ok everyone increase their fonts and get chatting so PHYL will have ton's of pages to catch up on :tt2:

Will cbl

So here are today's list of questions:

Does it quit hurting??? I have no problems with my morning coffee, but anything else... Well that isn't exactly true..after a couple of hours I can drink my Protein smoothie. I tried my watery oatmeal first and I could actually hear it gurgling through the band, and yep hurt like heck.

Yes and no. Not only do you have to relearn WHAT you eat, you have to relearn HOW you eat. There are times when I'm absolutely starving. I know I have to chew, chew, chew my food and I do. But because I'm so hungry, I'll eat too quickly. By the time I realize my mistake, I've got that bowling ball caught in my chest. :tt2: The same thing will happen if I'm not paying attention to my eating because I'm reading or watching TV at the same time.

how can you be so tight in the morning that liquids are tough and 6 hours later you can eat a cup of something.

I used to be like this. I still am to some extent. Maybe my body has just gotten so used to not being able to get a lot down in the morning that it's decided breakfast is not an option. :scared2: I drink a cup of hot coffee first, then try to have some oatmeal or cream of wheat half an hour later. The warm fluids seem to open things up a bit.

Everyone's different. My toughest time of the day is between 3 and 7pm, whereas someone like Janet has a hard time late at night. So we have to plan our calories and meals accordingly and make sure we've banked a few extra to help us get through those tough moments. If I'm going to fall off the wagon, it'll typically be during the afternoon snack time.

I also find I'm tighter when Aunt Flo comes to visit. There's at least one day when I have to revert back to liquids and mushies.

I know I should only be able to eat 1/2 cup. Is it because it is a mushie and that right now that is okay??? I guess I am trying to understand how to work with the band.

I'm still trying to figure it out myself some days. I've come to accept that as with a lot of things, it's always changing. Some days it will allow me to eat more, other days it won't. If I had the magical formula that would let me know what to expect it would make this a whole lot easier. It does get easier to learn to read your body, but even now I don't discover until I'm in pain what it's trying to tell me. Again it could go back to the time of day for you. Or the time of month. Or what it is you're trying to eat.

So when you guys eat your chicken do you feel it stack up? or does it go through? Before the fill, I didn't feel anything as long as I chewed, I guess the food just moved through. If we want the food to stack up, why do we chew it so well?

Yes. I still have hit and miss with chicken. I'm more successful getting chicken thighs to go down and stay down than chicken breasts. Maybe it's because it's more moist and not as stringy as breasts can get. But I have to be careful and make sure I only eat a little at a time. Sometimes it can take me about an hour to eat a chicken thigh because I can only take one bite at a time and let it make it's way all the way through before taking another bite. Otherwise I can feel it start to stack up like you said.

And when I'm really, really, REALLY hungry, this is hard for me because I want to satisfy that hunger NOW, not over a period of an hour. So I get frustrated at times and reach for foods that I know won't get stuck. My sliders. You'll discover them if you haven't already. All mine are evil. I haven't been able to find a food that will slide through that's good for me.

Am I getting pain because food is moving through? I finally got so hungry today that I chewed Jerky and spit it out.

I can relate to that. I used to do the same thing. Sometimes I wonder if I just want to taste the food in my mouth with no need to swallow it. I'll do that with celery because I really do like it, but the fibres in it don't like me. I try not to do it too often though as I think it's a bad habit to fall into. I've taken to chopping up my celery really small so that the fibres aren't as long, but nothing beats biting off a big chunk and chewing through it sometimes.

Hope I've answered all your questions.

I'm still working on calculating my calories every day. I'm SO lazy. I know I'm doing better these past couple of days, but I don't know for sure. I'm taking baby steps. Getting back here on a regular basis is the first one. I know I need to get with the program in more ways, but I worry that if I take on too much at once, I'll give up altogether if one small thing fails. Fight one crisis at a time.

Good Morning!

Last post before leaving. About to hit the shower and get ready to leave. They don't start checking in until 12 noon, supposed to be onboard by 3pm. I'm sure we'll be there by 11 a.m.! DH won't pay the approx $20 a day to park in the ramp across the street from the cruise terminal so we have to drive down to DD's... a little over an hour south, so she can drive us back north to Seattle and drop us off! So, I guess I'll be ready to leave by 9 a.m.

So... I guess I'll have 200 pages to read when I get back, right???

:scared2::biggrin::lol::biggrin::wub:

Will try to upload a few photos to FB when we're in port and wll post from Blackberry if I can.

HUGS!

Thanks everyone for your answers, they helped a lot. Today is the first day that I am home all day since my fill, so I am hoping that I will be more relaxed when I eat. I am sure that I am tensing while eating, waiting for the pain. Anyway, you know that I will let you know.

Steph, good luck on your speech. I assume that it is for the school's graduation, I missed what it was for. You must feel honored!! and you will kick some major booooooootae.. They will be honored to have YOU!!

So lets see, Phyll is off the the high seas, Karri is tramping in the wilds as bear breakfast and the rest of us??? I am going to work on the yard, one of my favorite things. Get the roses pruned and epsoned salted, dig up the DOA's that I never got around to mulching, plant some bulbs, work on my pots...should be relaxing and fun.

I did email the lady who owned my favorite local quilt shop about selling. AND the shop is for sale..what is left of the stock and the 'name', and I am waiting to hear if the building is for sale as well. The shop was in a restored church building, complete with tower, thus the name the 'Bell Tower'. I talked to my nursery boss about buying a business in a lousy economy. She said that she bought the nursery during our worst economic slump in recent history, AND that the nursery had been hit by hail that stripped the branches and bark off of a good portion of the trees (we field grow most of our trees). But with hard work she has made it a success. Her advice is to go for it, and offered to work for me during the winter.

So folks, I am asking for a huge favor...Please pray about this. Doris does tend to be noisy about things like this..."are you crazy? Are you ready to work 24/7? What are you going to do when it fails? You have NO start up money." I know I need a change, I am becoming a disappointment to myself as a teacher. I just don't have the passion anymore. One thing that I would like to offer at the shop is kid's sewing/crafting classes. These are soon becoming the lost 'arts'. So I am asking for prayer to show me what is the right path. If I believe and 'call it to me' (The Secret) the right path will be shown to me. Please help me find the path.

Janet have fun with the trainer, is he a hottie??? I'd train hard for him if he was...

Ruby, go shopping, buy the good foods.

My kids are nagging me to get busy, I don't know what I will do with them gone next year. Elyse (soon to be 23) is transfering to a college in either Chicago or Spokane, & Alexa (the baby soon to be 19) will be in Missoula at the University.

You all have a good day

Well, about high speed?? Ask me tomorrow. I was told that if we hit our limit on downloads, it would punish us by going dial up speed for around 24 hours. Well, I've been on dial up speed all day. In fact, this is slower than the dial up I had. I've got to check this out. It's ridiculous that after only a day and a half this thing drops to dial up speed. $60.00 a month?? I don't think so. Gonna get some answers on Monday. At least they don't charge extra.

Karla - Here' something to think about ..........when you first wake up in the morning, you are well rested, empty mind......the band works great. 6 hours later, your mind has had time to figure out that you haven't had much to eat and you should be starving. And you are. Head hunger. I've found a lot of times, it is a case of mind over matter. I'm still trying to overcome the urge to keep eating, even though I know I am full. It's that empty plate syndrome. And, I even use a small salad plate for my meals.

Janet - Mexican cruise sounds great, but you know, it's just you and Phyl that don't put up with snow and cold weather. Canada, Michigan and Wyoming are all know for cold nasty winters. Why don't we go during winter breaks at school? Does it have to be July to Celebrate? Do you still have the smiley's from smiley central? They take up quite a bit of room on a post and they will go a long way in adding pages here. I don't have mine any more cause one of the virus thingys said I got a virus from it so I'm afraid to download it again.

Any estimates on how many pages we can fill for Phyl? FILLS FOR PHYL!!! Kind of has a nice ring to it.

Here's a cute story to fill space for Phyl. My one nd a half year old grand daughter calls her brother Gavin, Nonny. Now, how do you get Nonny from Gavin?? DD finally figured it out the other night. He asked her if he could have something and she said, "no, honey. I don't think so." And little Karina says "no, Nonny". Mystery solved. Honey, Nonny. Think she'll ever say

Gavin?

Okay, I've done my part tonight. Besides, this thing is so slow today. I'll be back tomorrow and post again.

Hopefully I'll be back to high speed.:scared2:

Well we were not able to complete the full 32 miles...but not because of the distance. The weather was supposed to be beautiful...and it was...when the sun was out. But last night I didn't sleep for more than 10 minutes at a time because I was so f'ing cold. Finally Lee got up at 2AM and made a fire so that we could get a little warm. We actually considered hiking out at 2AM...but figured that we would be fine. Finally I fell asleep and it lasted for about 2 hours before I was up every 10 minutes again. The last time I woke up I was shivering so hard that I started panicking ( I now know what people who have hypothermia feel like and why they make dumb decisions. ) I sat straight up and screamed for Lee. I was shivering so hard that he thought that I was going into convulsions. He got out of his sleeping bag and put me inside of that as well. Then he quickly heated some Water to make one of our dehydrated meals. You pour the water in and then seal the bag for it to rehydrate. We put the bag inside my sleeping bag to try and heat me up. I seriously have NEVER been that cold in my entire life. He was miserably cold too but he has a bit more insulation than I do. I couldn't use my fingers to even get out of my sleeping bag which made me panic even more. Fortunately I was able to thaw out and we decided that we couldn't make it one more night. Though it turns out that it is supposed to be 20 degrees warmer tonight, but we couldn't chance it. Besides we were so tired from not sleeping last night that I slept the entire 2 hour drive home and then we both slept for 5 hours when we got home. Plus I could go to bed right now and probably sleep the whole night.

On a good note...I can now have the official PANSY title removed from my description (:scared2: to my mommy). I slept outside underneath the stars. I did buy mosquito netting but there were not trees to tie it from (and fortunately no mosquitos attacking me.) I am EXTREMELY sensitive to mosquitos and they seem to love me. We went camping a couple years ago and in a matter of 2 hours I had over 150 mosquito bites that we could count. That doesn't count the ones that were indistiguishable from each other. We finally had to go into the tent and we could hear them hitting the tent. So we now have the netting for future use

Tomorrow we are going to go hiking at one of the more local hikes. We have done all of the trains there except one because it is a MONSTER. Going up will be difficult...coming down will be AWFUL...but the view will be soooooo worth it.

Well I am going to plan out our meals for the week so that we can go shopping after our hiking trip tomorrow.

Hi ladies. I had a great day! :w00t: My speech went off without a hitch! I only "almost" cried once. :crying: But I got it together and went on without any problems. :smile2: Maybe they were all just being nice, but I got a ton of complements on it. I think I'll post it on my Facebook page.

Jeff and I are going out to the drive in tonight. I just love the drive in. Not crazy looking forward to watching Fast and Furious 3. Not really my type of show, but I will go and enjoy it! :scared2:

I'm all in for cruising at xmas time. :w00t: My family might not be crazy about it, but...they will get over it. I asked Jeff if he had decided if we could afford the end of July trip and he just looked at me. I'm guessing that means no...but I'm holding out hope. The only downfall to a cruise at xmas is we had talked about Vegas at Thanksgiving so that Karri could be there. I guess we need to figure out something. I'm sure the ladies at the July meeting will have it all figured out by the time they get done. We'll be waiting with baited breath to see what they plan! :tt2:

Karla, if you want to come here and work in my yard, it needs all the TLC it can hold! :thumbup:I have a spare bed...just hop on the train and come on out!! 3 days out here would be AWESOME!!!! :tt2:

Well, I suppose I need to go get ready for the movie. Have a great night! I'll talk to you all in the morning.:wink2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
