LeslieLee,

Just an aside, make sure you are NOT constipated when you go in for surgery. Sometimes all that Protein with no Fiber will slow things in that department...

You don't want to be straining afterwards, and being "empty" will certainly speed up your ability to pass the gas after surgery,(which for alot of people is their only pain afterwards)

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: BEST OF LUCK !!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: The "other side" is AWESOME!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Something amazing has happened in the last couple of days. I am not hungry and the cravings are gone. I have struggled through the beginning of my pre-op diet and I can’t believe how easy the last couple of days have been. I could eat cottage cheese forever. Mr. Yoda was right it does get easier. I am still anxious of the weekend…sunshine…bbq….to much time on my hands…I hope I don’t slip.:faint:

There is one issue that is concerning me. I am having a hard time when I exercise. I get dizzy and nauseous, even though I have not increased my intensity and I have decreased the weights. I’m wondering if it is the diet or the recent weight loss, or maybe I’m overly concerned.(I can get quite whiny) :think

I think it is just your lack of food intake. Your body is saying "WTF"!!!!??? You are bound to feel like that since you likely don't have enough energy in your body. Take is easy...you can't do the same intensity during this period (or the post-op). Work your way back up to it once you are eating and consuming lots of energy.

if you can go without eating for so long you can do anything....and the best part is, everyone complains about being hungry a few days after surgery, and yes, it happens....but after eating liquids only for so long, you are actually afraid to eat! It is a wonderful feeling to be able to resist food. Just make sure you get plenty of Water before surgery...drink lots of it, that way IV's go in easier, and as soon as you Pee, hold down water, and can demonstrate your walking ability, you can go home!!! Good Luck. This was the best thing I have ever done.

Ohhh yes when they say pre op is not fun I see why. Today is day one for me. Just enjoyed dinner which consisted of cottage cheese and a chicken breast. I use the word "enjoy" loosly.

Please please please tell me these 2 weeks will get easier!

Ok question....im going to TLBC so things seem a bit different there.

I wanted to confirm....I can drink Protein vanilla low carb shakes on the pre op? I would hate to go do it and not really be able to.

It varies. If in doubt, call the clinic and ask them....don't take what people here say wrt your particular situation! That is what the clinic is there for!! Ask and make sure before you act!

I want to reasure you Miranda, that it does get easier. I am also going to TLBC. I was told only cottage cheese, yogurt and milk. I also spoke to Jill the nutritionist, and she said I can have a piece of skinless chicken breast boiled or broiled if I must only. I'm not sure if you attended the preop seminar yet, but Jill did tell everyone to give her a call if you are having trouble with the preop diet and she will suggest some alternatives. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you for your response Yoda. I think you are right. I'm going to lower the intesity and just try to go for my 45 minutes. And I will definetly take it slow after the surgery. I'll just start by walking the dog and work my way up :D

Thanks Kwalla girl!

So Jill never said anything to you about low carb vanilla Protein shakes. Im so parinoid I will do something that will cause an issue at surgery time.

This morning I was wating Siloette yogurt. I was looking at it and there is big peices of fruit in it. I was like "uhhh is this okay??". Then got nervous that maybe I shouldnt be eating it.

No, I was never told about the Low carb vanilla Protein Shakes, however I do suggest that you contact the clinic and speak to Jill if you are not sure. I think I’ll call them myself on Monday as I’ve thrown up a couple of times this weekend and broke out in weird spots. I think I need to give cottage cheese a break. All’s good though. Seeing the scale move keeps me going, and to tell you the truth this is not the worst diet I’ve tried. Three days to go.

OK, I've seen the dietitian, and the social worker (shrink) both agreed that I am a good candidate and will be able to handle the self controls that are needed to suceed -- the Pre-Op for this doctor is Optifast ONLY -- nothing added if at all possible. Clear Fluids for only 1-2 days after surgery, then 2 weeks of "full" fluids i.e. milk based, cottage cheese and yougurt and s/f custard and pudding. then 2 weeks of pureed floods - any self made or baby food item as long as it is smooth, then move slowly into solids. In 2 week chunks, I can do this - it will not be that long!! and Non-food rewards are suggested along the way -- I might get a manicure, or buy myself some flowers :drum: - not something I would normally do ... Also recommended was to start now and watch what you eat -- the more I can loose before surgery, the better.

I can do this --

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
