I thought I had made a mistake, too. Between the pain, then the nausea once I started eating, the hormonal changes, and how my crazy taste buds changed and food was revolting... ACK! But I am 9 weeks now and so much better and know I did the right thing! Believe in yourself! You will make it!

I just hope on day ill come to say " i did the right thing " !

It gets better. Your body has been put through a massive over haul. It's too bad you can't have more time off to rest and adjust. Keep telling yourself it gets better. Soon you will be telling the distraught newbies your journey. It's not fun but it's totally worth it.

I've had friends who used lavender sachets to help with the nausea. Candied ginger and ginger crystals helped me.

I had a miserable time then too. remember that your body is releasing estrogen as you lose weight, making you more prone to extra emotion over it all too.

I do think you should ask your surgeon for guidance and to make sure there is nothing physical "amiss" but i also suggest you do some internal work on your own feelings.

I HATED not liking food. I felt very isolated. I felt just plain weird. I tell people I began feeling human about 12 weeks out and I can't exactly explain what I even mean by that. What i did was spend time on these forums looking at before and after pictures, visualizing a future of good health, active lifestyle, all those things I hoped WLS would bring to me. It helped... but it took time.

Hang in there! I am 3 years out and so happy i did this! I love being half my former size and full of zest and energy for life!

@@CowgirlJane - That's an interesting point about losing estrogen. I wonder if it makes a difference that I am already menopausal. I never had crazy emotions as a result of the surgery.

There's an old saying that says "Your attitude determines your altitude" and in this sense, I think that you need to focus on being positive and remind yourself why you did this. Instead of saying "I made a mistake", say to yourself, "I made a choice and now I'm going to do whatever it takes to make it work for me". By staying positive and using uplifting self talk, you can combat those nasty negative thoughts. You are strong. You are courageous. You are NOT weak, you are NOT a failure. Find the strength deep within yourself and do not grieve what you decided before this surgery, and that was this is what you needed to do. Take lots of deep breaths and breathe in positive energy and blow away all the negative energy. Much love and light to you!

OK, here is a group hug from friends on the forum. As a nurse, I am sure that your advice to a patient presenting the symptoms that you have would be to get hydrated and contact both your primary physician and your bariatric team. Then you would pick up that patient's chin and pat them on the back and tell them "There, there, there, it will be allright in a minute. You will come out of this......just follow your plan and trust in the process." But following your plan means to stay hydrated and start getting some Protein and nutrients in.

I don't know if there is any the scientific support behind the curative properties of Grandma's chicken Soup, but maybe you could just boil a chicken with some very tiny veggie pieces, and throw in a little boullion and a bit of salt and pepper in there. And if you are totally dragging, add some pastini or very thin noodles for a few carbs. Please get well.

Dullness happens! Let it.

Lose all the weight that you can during the dull phase because when your tastebuds broaden, there is no stopping. Tell yourself to bring on lackluster and dullness! :)

or puree the veg and just leave the chicken small enough to be chewed very carefully.

I hope to day is a better day for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
