Pre opt diet weight loss

Recommended Posts

I know the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver, but I am on the 4 week liquid slim fast diet and have only lost 13 pounds, during the 6 month physcian monitored diet I lost over 60 pounds, I'm afraid my surgeon will think I've not lost enough weight, although he didn't give me a specific amount to lose. My surgery in Friday I weigh in on Tuesday. Do you think maybe the liquid diet has slowed my metabolism?

That sounds pretty good to me, but there are better shakes than slim fast. EAS Carb Control or Bariatric Advantage or Atkins. Did the doc put you on slim fast?

Slim fast is on the recommended list, and is the most affordable for me 4 weeks of shakes add up.

I hear you…just make sure you are using the low carb version slim fast. The regular versions can have up to 25 carbs and 18 sugars which would definitely slow down your weight loss. Best wishes!!

Doc said the high Protein 25 carbs are fine. Not supposed to have more than that.

I have been on the liquid diet now for 10 days and have only lost 11 lbs. I lost 70 lbs during the waiting for approval time and Dr supervised diet. I know how frustrating it can be at this point after so much hard work to get here. I figure things will work out in the end, they usually do. Good luck. My surgery is on Nov 26th so we will be on the same roller coaster this holiday season.

60 lbs on the pre op diet???

If I could do that well at dieting, I would not need surgery...just had to say.

Surgery was my last resort because I was unable to loose weight any other way.

And my 6 month program proved just that to my insurance...that I indeed needed surgery, nothing else will work.

Just had to say...I read these posts all the time and it makes my head spin...I just don't understand the reason for wanting - needing to be successful on that 6 month program....

I know Dr.'s are asking people to be successful, what else would they say other than give it your best effort...which mine did...and I FAILED....and the staff just smiled knowing something????

The reason I really tried to lose weight on the 6 months doctor supervised diet is in reading it stated that the more weight you can get off before surgery, the better the surgery will go. Also your statement of if I could lose 60 pounds you wouldn't need surgery here is the thing I have gained and lost tons of weight since I was 21 years old so losing isn't hard for me, it's keeping it off. I lost 62 pounds but when I started I weighed 321, not only that I'm considered overweight at 124 poinds cause I'm so short.

Yes, you are right am ponder. I've lost and gained weight lots of times over the years. And 60 lbs is a good start to reaching your goals!

Also my insurance stated I had to lose 5 percent of my weight so I guess my insurance wanted to make sure I was serious about it.

My surgeon didn't have a pound loss goal before surgery but did put me on a strict post op 800 calorie regimen. His nutritionist told me he liked to see maximum weight loss in the immediate post op period. She said it was a great kick start to the process. I lost fifty pounds before my first fill and she was right. It did create great momentum and build good eating habits.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
