Would a ring size change after surgery?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Jan 6. My wife wants to buy me a new ring for Christmas. Does anyone know how much a ring size could change in the first year?should I ask her to hold off?

Fingers do shrink. Depending on how much you need to lose it could change a few sizes. I'm currently waiting for my wedding ring to fit again.

Thanks for the relies. This all makes sense to me. I am right at 300 lbs. I don't know how much I will lose but 210 would be awesome. Haven't been there for 30 years. I may asks her to wait until July 4 for the ring. My surgery is Jan 6.

This is kind of funny, I am 7 weeks post op tomorrow. I wear two very beautiful rings that I will never take off. In fact I made my husband hold them in his pocket while I went in for surgery and made them give them back when I got to my room. I started losing weight so quickly that withi two weeks post off one of them was spinning completely around and the other was quite loose as well. At 4 weeks 1 went flinging off my ring hang when I went to pick something up off the table.

I went into the jeweler and the actually put an insert on them that will allow me to tighten them as I continue to lose weight. Once I have reached my goal, we will permanently size them. One of my rings was actually 3 sizes too big in a matter of weeks. It seems like the first place to lose.

Mine went from a 9 to a 6.5!

My jeweler also put a sizer on when I was around an 8

Then I returned because sizer wasn't holding it on any more

So she added some large balls on the ring and then a sizer on top of that.

She won't size it finally until I am stable because it will hurt the ring structure.

Here is how it looks on inside

My first NSV was that my rings fit again. Now every one of them is too big and fall off. I even found my HS ring and it's too big... And I was not overweight in HS!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
