Portland, Oregon Weight Loss Surgery, LLC and Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Institute

Recommended Posts

So far I am not impressed with Oregon Weight Loss Surgery, LLC and Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Institute of Portland, Oregon (Drs Jay Jan and Emma Patterson). Long story short... I went to their information seminar today and was treated horribly. The worst was when they refused to give me a packet because I have Health Net insurance. mad.gif I had to argue with the lady that I plan to get new insurance or self pay, just to get a packet and attend the seminar! If I hadn't been hanging out here reading posts I probably would have given up and left like she wanted.

These are supposed to be great surgeons in their field but from what I've read and experienced they have crummy "bed-side-manner".

I'm not sure if I will continue working with them in hopes this improves or go to someone else think.gif

Hi there, I was wondering if you followed through with Emma Patterson and if your opinion had changed. I'm thinking about using her but after reading your post, I'm wondering if I should find someone else. Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

My problems continued with OWLS. So, I found a new Dr. and I'm so happy I did! I've had my pre-op and am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Neal Aug 21!

Dr Neal and his staff are so wonderful!!!! He's in WA but TOTALLY worth the drive! I also have a new local friend that was banded by him. We started a local support group-- we'd love to have you join us.

If you have any questions feel free to write me (just click on my user name).

Hello - Just beginning my journey and looking into doctors and options. I was acutally looking into Emma Patterson and her clinic, then read your post. Oh my! Sounds like someone needs an attitude adjustment. And I have ran into that with so many doctors, and this is just too important of a decision to just go to anyone. I would love to join a support group if you still know of an active one. I think lapband or Realize is going to be my best option. Would love to hear from someone who has been through it.

Thanks,

Joules

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
