Return to Work from Home

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'm scheduled for surgery Tuesday, December 30th. I have a work from home desk job. I know most forums say return to work after around two weeks, but do you think I would be well enough to sit at a desk (or in bed with a computer) by the following Monday (Jan 5th)?

Thanks in advance!

Barring any complications, I think it will be fine as long as you are permitted to take frequent breaks to walk around and get the blood flowing. Being in your home is a huge advantage. I'm not returning to work for 2 weeks, but I fully intend to do some work from home while I'm here.

Hi congrats on your choice to being healthy, I agree with the above statement if you have no problems and can walk around you should be fine, good luck.

Thanks for the advice! I manage events that take place in the summer, so winter is pretty slow and I will have plenty of breaks- I just need to have my computer up and running and be connected to email and company instant messaging.

Barring unforeseen complications, I don't think you should have a problem. I went back to a physically active job at 7 days, but I could have been online, dealing with correspondence or Skype meetings even the day after surgery. As it was, I was shopping and sightseeing day 1 and 2, traveling (flying and driving) days 3 and 4, finally relaxed day 5, and got my nails done and haircut day 6.

It sounds like you should be ok. To go back to work from home the following week, but wow! Reading the post from Bariatric Hero has me dumbfounded. I was in the hospital for four days Monday through Thursday and didn't even drive for over a week. Although I was walking the next day and taking walks the day after I left the hospital.

You should be fine, but make sure you're paying attention to your Fluid intake as it can be difficult to get in the minimum amount (my doctor said 64oz was my minimum) with the new teensy tummy.

And, as everyone has said, try to keep moving around and get some walking in if you can. You might find that your energy is still a bit low with the surgery recovery plus decreased caloric intake, so rest if you need to.

Best of luck!

I work from home but took 2 1/2 weeks off.

The first week and pain meds was just a lot of sleepiness but I had no complications.

Helped to be off to go through the eating phases and get to know my body a little bit.

I was ready to go back after 5 days.

But it was summer and I went to the beach and sat on sand instead ????????????????????????????

Thanks everyone for this thread! I WAH as well and was wondering how much time to submit for my upcoming surgery Dec 1! I guess 2 weeks or a reduced schedule at work should be good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
