Hi guys, of course I have jumped through tons of hoops and loops over the past few months. I went and had my chest x-ray done and was sent for an echo. I did the echo probably over two months ago and have surgery scheduled for this coming Tues. I went to pre-op this past tues and pre-registered as well. I received a phone call yesterday around 3 pm saying that I needed to be at the hospital Mon morning for a ct. They say that my echo showed an enlarged heart and something about the right ventricle. My surgeon has looked at the echo twice and was comfortable with the surgery, however, the anesthesiologist is refusing unless the ct is performed Mon and he is able to be there and look at the test. I'm worried now that I can't have the surgery and if they do go ahead with it, am I at a higher risk. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have an enlarged heart (cardiomyopathy) and was approved for surgery. I was worried about having heart failure during the sleeve surgery because it had happened during my last c-section. My heart is enlarged due to rhemaric fever and pregnancy. The condition worsens if you are very obese because your heart has to work harder. In my opinion, an enlarged heart is a good reason to have bariatric surgery. You will feel so much better once the weight starts coming off. My surgery was successful without any big complications. However, you have to listen to the professionals. My EKG, echocardiogram, and chest x-ray was fine prior to surgery,so I went ahead with it. That isn't to say I still wasn't worried about heart failure during surgery. I'm still advised not to ever get pregnant again, which is fine by me for now.

I know this sounds crazy, but, I had my gall bladder removed in 2013 and my ekg and everything came back normal. When it came time for me to have all my testing down for the sleeve, the tests started showing abnormalities. I have good, kinda low b/p. Tuesday when I went for registration and labs, it was 97/62. I don't have diabetes, the only medication I'm on is birth control and synthroid for my thyroid. I am confused as to how my heart was normal last year and is enlarged this year. I haven't seen a cardiologist because no one had made me aware of this situation, until the anesthesiologist was concerned yesterday. I know that obesity will cause the heart to work harder so I guess now, I have to wait test results, and go from there on Monday. I just feel that I've been through so much the past few months to get approval and ready for the sleeve, and now two days out from surgery, something else has came up.

I was sent for a stress test prior to surgery. The cardiologist found an issue and I had to have a heart catherization. Shrt story they found a abdominal aortic aneurism. I had to have immediate surgery that saved my life. A year later I had my sleeve and have very successful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
