Diet Cheating!

So im,2 weeks out on the puree diet and can no longer hold the secret but I'm cheating I eat plantain chips and corn with flax seeds chips and chunky Peanut Butter. I eat meats that aren't canned and I had Popeyes mashed potatoes. I know I should not have Crunchies but honestly I'm not going to lie I'm sick of this "sheltered" life I just want to be "normal". I don't feel pain with my sleeve and I even snack which isn't in my diet plan at this point. (The chips I'm eating aren't high in fat or sugar or carbs)

Ugh be nice to me but tell me to stop! Or tell me I'm okay. I don't know this is annoying

I know that you, like me, must have wanted this surgery desperately. What you are doing now has way more to do with your need for counseling and support than with hunger. I know that it is very hard to stay on track. My third day out my friend made bacon. I wanted to lick it. Just one time. It had nothing to do with hunger, pure craving. You can not see what is happening on the inside of your body. It is pretty scary to think of the damage that might be happening that you are not feeling. See if there is some way to get to a counselor to discuss the apparent addiction to food.

See i don't think it's addiction (I know it sounds like denial) but everything else I'm good like my b.f eats junk and not once do I lick or want a bite I just turn my check. I think I'm just really need a crunch ya know? When I do cheat it's one or two it's not like I lay in bed eating a whole bag. But I will stop because your right my inside are probably wacky and that's scary.

I have to agree with the pervious poster... You should really seek a support group and a counselor. This entire process is just as much mental as it is physical.

You did this for a reason. You made the choice to have your body physically altered in order to give you a better chance at becoming a healthier you. Remember your reasons why the next time you start reach for the plantains, the high carb, high calorie Snacks. Doing things your way got you here. Is this where you want to stay?

You're two weeks out and already feeling "sheltered"? You're being normal.. the normal old you that got to 255 pounds. If you want things to be different, you actually have to be different from what your normal was and start following your new plan. Make yourself a new normal! Your sleeve alone won't do all the work for you, so take this seriously. You've already done the hardest part. All you need to do now is just stick with it! :D

Here's the biggest key; you titled this thread "diet cheating". I'm not dieting. A diet is temporary. I'm in this for the life style change. I want to learn to properly manage my eating and Portion Control. I didn't go through months of preop testing and surgery for nothing. I want it to be the start of a new leaf on life. I'd be more concerned that it appear that except for the Peanut Butter you are eating junk food.

You want mashed potatoes? Boil your own. You then control the sodium and other artificial ingredients in it. You have an opportunity to make it healthy.

I have no idea what canned meats are, but you probably could eat that if it's cooked soft enough and you're taking your time to chew it slowly.

My advice would be to talk to your nutritionist about your cravings and come up with a plan to address those cravings safely. It is possible to out grow your sleeve. I was in a support group with a woman who did and she was trying to convince the insurance co to do a revision to a bypass. I don't think you want to do that.

I hear everything everyone is saying trust me. What I mean. By normal is I didn't meal prep the last 2 days so Popeyes was in between classes. Like I said the chips ARE NOT high in carbs or fat or sugar my concern with them is that it's not puree. And by normal I mean I've been out of work for 2 weeks and I'm going insane I want my NORMAL social life back. I went out today and I wasn't able to get in my Water so I was just confused with how me and my sleeve will be once I return to all social activities

As close as you are to surgery it's not about having "bad" foods (ie too many carbs, fats, fried, etc.), it about texture and possibly doing serious harm to your very fragile, recently traumatized digestive tract. I sounds like what you are doing is the exact opposite of what you need to do to heal. I agree with the above posters that you need to seriously seek help with your team, your post sounds very self-destructive.

I am 24 days post op, still on pureed food, and in a stall! I get missing the crunch. .. but I know that I'll be able to have it again one day; just not while my guts are swollen and recovering from an amputation!!

I agree that seeking some therapy around your relationship with food is an important component of having this surgery. I'm not speaking for anyone but myself here but I didn't get to 262 in by eating sensible portions of healthy food and being active. A lot of poor Portion Control, poor impulse control and some other unresolved emotional stuff added to a lot of excuses and a sedentary lifestyle helped me get to a place where surgery was even a viable option.

I get it, I really do. I'm in a stall, the scale isn't budging and I want a chip! But then I remember that I have never in my life eaten one of anything that I enjoyed. That's how I got here.

Let your body heal. Give this thing 100%. Most importantly, please don't risk your health needlessly. There will still be chips out there (plantain and otherwise) when you're able to eat normal food;that is if you still want them.

You mentioned that you think u just needed the crunch. My surgeon's office suggested cherios. It has the crunch but it melts in your mouth. They now have Protein cherios on the market. The honey ones are great. Just don't eat the granola that's mixed in.

Your stomach isn't fully healed. I dunno if you've ever binged on anything dry and pointy like Cap'n Crunch that's cut your mouth up or had a Dorito get wedged underneath your gum line.. but if you know what I'm talking about, that can happen to your sleeve. Imagine your stomach now -- the protective layer it had has been cut completely through, you've got a huge row of staples/healing tissue still exposed to not only stomach acid but whatever you eat. It takes at least six weeks for that incision to heal, and even then it might not be completely healed. Crunchy foods early on can cause problems. They can do the same things that they do to your mouth, only a healing incision is much more vulnerable.

I don't think you would've posted if you didn't already know in the back of your mind that you shouldn't be doing what you're doing. Stop making excuses and/or looking for approval for bad behavior. And if you need to get out of the house, go! There's nothing stopping you. Get a cute new Water bottle and take it with you wherever you go so you can get your daily Fluid in. Also, look for new ways to be social that don't involve food. It's all a big adjustment, but you'll get used to it. You can do it!

Fact: You've chosen to have major elective surgery to help you combat your obesity.

Fact: Your insides are still healing. You have a major staple line and are at huge risk for leaks, infection and damage to your staple line.

Fact: You are eating foods that I'm fairly certain aren't on your food plan but can certainly cause a lot of damage to your newly cut stomach.

What food stage are you on? At two weeks, I was still on mushies. I wasn't allowed to have nuts or seeds until almost three months out. Mashed potatoes are the only thing you listed that could be considered purée. I've never met a "low carb" plantain chip and those flax seed things and crunchy PB aren't low carb either. If you believe they are, you need to relearn your nutritional facts.

You are already tired of being "sheltered"? Girl, you have a long road ahead of you. You want to be "normal"? Did your NUT not give you any preop info on what to expect right after surgery? "Normal" will come, but it's a while away and it's not the normal that got you to a point where you needed WLS.

I won't throw the words denial or food addiction at you, but you need to step back and take a long hard look at what you are saying here. You used the word cheating for a reason. You are asking for help. You know if what you are doing is "right" or "wrong" -- you don't need a stranger on the Internet to tell you.

Personally, I don't subscribe to the word cheating. I'm an adult making adult decisions. I choose to stick to plan or I choose not to. No "cheating" about it. If you are "cheating", the only person you are "cheating" is yourself. Self sabotage is a sad thing to do to yourself so soon in the game.

It's concerning because you at 2 weeks you are attempting to make the lifestyle changes you need. You aren't doing food prep, you went out without foods safe to eat or a Water bottle and it sounds like you then decided to not buy Water while out. The pureed stage is only 2 weeks. It's concerning that you could not delay gratification for 2 weeks.

Plaintain chips may not be "that high in carbs" but it has no Protein. Protein is what is the key to losing.

Please rethink your choices. Call your nutritionist and brainstorm.

I'm curious. What brand plantain and flaxseed chips are you eating? I've searched google for low fat low carb varieties and have come up empty handed. Point me in the right direction. :)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
