Heres my question...please anyone who knows...pipe in...

Does the band move around your stomach...I am NOT talking slipping up and down the stomach, but around in CIRCLES, or when the stomach heals up is the band totally enclosed and does not move AT ALL??? Does anyone know? Deanna

Acording to the operation movie I watched it is supposed to be able to move back and forth. If it's too tight it can lead to erosion or something like that.

I knew it was stitched in place, but that was the answer I was looking for...that the adhesions make it so it does not twist....so it is kinda like locked into one place forever..

Well, we HOPE it is forever! Theoretically, it's forever. But slips and such do happen.

It used to be that they stitched it differently than today. But they have perfected the surgical technique and the band and slips and erosion are not common.

I'm new and may have totally misunderstood. The movie I am referring to is the one at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/two-live-lap-band-surgery-videos-33949/

I watched the movie again (very interesting!) and the part I'm talking about is at about the 33 minute mark, right after they cut the stitches and they talk about the collar and one of the problems being erosion. It's really vague and now I'm not quite sure what he meant.

A little side question for you... Is it weird having an object in your body? Do you feel it or know it's there?

No, you don't feel a thing either inside or out. I can't even feel my port, but maybe when I've lost more weight I can.

I have 4 heart stents in my body and I don't feel them either....hope the band can keep me from having any more!!

Nope, not weird at all. I don't even think about it since I can't feel it. The only two ways I know it is there is that I HAVE to eat differently and if I feel my stomach I can feel the port. Otherwise I am totally unaware that it exists in my body.

I don't feel anything inside or out, either. He said I likely won't ever feel my port (it's currently 6-8inches deep). Sometimes I think I feel it when I'm sprawled on the bed on my side, feels like something is poking on the inside where the band is, but I'm 90% pretty sure it's my imagination (or food).

The only time it 'dawns on me' that I have something in my body is when I eat too fast and something gets stuck. Otherwise, my body is the same body.. just getting skinnier! :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
