I weigh too much? *cry*

Recommended Posts

Does being a 61+/- BMI leave me with my surgeon denying surgery? I have seen 600lb ppl having RNY, why would a surgeon deny my bmi? We haven't met to discuss RNY revision yet (I have the Band) but I see on here that ppl are being turned away. I know I have to lose 5 or10% of my weight pre-agreement. I weigh 370@ 5'4". My consult is on 12/15, I'm scared he'll tell me I have to 1. Get band out first, and 2. Lose 70 lbs first. How can I do that! Will I be turned away?

Polly,

I can't answer your question but wanted to let you know that if you do have to lose weight before the surgery, you can do it! Put your mind and heart to it and you can do it! Don't ever say you can't! If you want it bad enough you can and will do it! It may take you awhile to do it but

don't get discouraged. Struggle through what your mind tells you! We can be our own worse

enemies. Surpass that inner voice and come out on the other side a believer that you WILL do this

and be successful with your journey.

I am larger than you and my surgeon hasn't said anything about me being too large. Have you met with your surgeon. So many variables go into the decision that you really have to have a personal consultation. You will never know for sure if you are a candidate for surgery until you ask.

Thank you ladies, I have my consult for a revision on 12/15. I'm also going to a seminar on the 11th. I should be well prepared. I hope, though, my surgeon doesn't freak when he sees my weight. This time around, I can barely stand, walk very short distances with a Rollator and am on oxygen. I'm a walking comorbidity. I hope they can do the revision to RNY in one shot. I pray.

If he says you're too large, maybe find another program? They all vary. Mine has a BMI limit of 60 for women (I think, maybe it's 65?) but my friend went to a program where she is and there is no limit. If he tells you that you have to lose and you have nowhere else to go to put your foot down and dig in and lose it - you can do it!

I can lose it, yes I can! Because I want and need this surgery so bad! Again, thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
