3 month prepatory program: questions, concerns, tips, tricks, comments...

Recommended Posts

I have to do a 3 month preparory program. I've had one visit with a nutritionist and another one set for dec. 3rd. I just am having a hard time putting all of the good advice from the nutritionist to use. I'm scared that once I have surgery my habits won't have changed. I haven't lost any weight duriing the fist 2.5 weeks of this prepatory thing. :-/. Is there Anyone who can relate?

I understand how that is. I have just finished a 3 month plan also and am having surgery next week. In the beginning it was overwhelming. I found that instituting one simple change was more successful than a bunch at one time. So maybe just concentrate on drinking enough Water or eating enough Protein. It's not all or nothing. Small changes made slowly and consistently can help! Good luck.

Yep...been there. My Nutritionist insisted that I journal my food...I resisted, but did it because she was expecting to pull it up online and look at it the second month. It is kind of a pain, but it is a really really valuable tool. While my three months weren't perfect...I lost 12 the first month 2 the second 8 the third and 1/2 the fourth....logging my food actually gave me the control that I felt like I was loosing by being put "on a program". As long as I stayed within my Protein, carbs and calories I could manage the food I ate and it helped me learn portion sizes (1/8 cup of shredded cheddar cheese is actually a decent amount) and to make tradeoffs. I used myfitnesspal.com It is free and has a great database...almost everything I ate was already in there...

Hang in there....if we could do it perfectly we wouldn't be in the shape we are. Baby steps and you WILL get there...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
