Today was day 5 and I am definitely feeling better every day. I went grocery shopping with the family today and walked the first half of the trip and ended up needing the electric cart for the second half. My post op diet was advanced from Clear liquids to full liquids and will stay that way until post op day 21. I have made 3 different things so far for dinner time and have thrown each in the garbage because nothing tasted even close to being good. I will keep experimenting to find something I like or at least tolerate. My pain is getting better daily, but I am still using pain medication just less frequent than before. Hiccups hit me for the 1st time since surgery today and I will say they hurt! Definitely an interesting experience and I can only imagine how much a sneeze would hurt. I find the abdominal binder the hospital provided really comfortable and helpful to keep my incisions from feeling like they are pulling. I am putting antibiotic ointment on each of my incision sites after showering and covering each with a piece of non stick gauze with just enough tape to keep it in place. The gauze protects the sites from being pulled on by the binder. So all in all life is definitely getting better each day and I am grateful!

@mamabrock- I totally agree with you! I am 2 weeks post tomorrow and just know everyday gets better. I felt really bad the first week and today I'm at Disneyland. Still a little sore and tired, but I had to get out and walk. I sit awhile, drink Water, walk a little rest again. It hasn't been enjoyable, but I have lost 16 lbs so I just know it's all going to be worth it!

I am getting nervous as far as post op pain goes.

I've had 2 c-sections and trying to get out of bed after that was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life.

Now that being said. Where is the pain? Incision sites? Stomach itself?

I just want to be prepared.

My friend had the by pass

Done in August and never had any pain issues.

I guess we're all different

I've also had two c-sections. So, you should be a pro at the "log roll" to get in and out of bed. :)

Most of my pain at first was under my diaphragm, and it was gas pain. They were giving me gas meds four times per day, so that helped.

Then, I strained one of my incisions and that's been my pain point for the last few days.

My incisions never hurt. A lot of muscle pain in my stomach for a couple of days. The worst part for me was the nausea and constant dry heaving for more than 24 hours straight. But from what I read on here that doesn't seem that common.

I agree it sucks! Many we all seem to heal differently. Everyone seems to have a different experience in the beginning. However the outcome is always the same. Some lose slow some lose fast but ultimately we all have the same goal and as long as we all stick to our plan we will all get there. I am 12 weeks post op and feeling great. I have had no "stalls" and I am grateful for that! Feeling really blessed I had this opportunity to get the tool I needed to look and feel good. All in good time you will feel better and the post op period will all be a distant memory.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
