Surgery was in the 17th. By last night i was panicking about what I did to myself! Hurts to drink, Water tastes terrible, and the burly hiccups....ouch! I think I feel better today, though...

Hang in there. My surgery was on the 13th and I'm feeling more and more human each day. My "questioning what I did" was pretty much gone by day 3 or 4. I'm still on Clear Liquids, but feeling good about it.

I was in the hospital for 3 days on morphine. I know it hurt some but I was walking as ordered and drinking fluids. Once home, I was on liquid Hydrocodone and boy did I need it. I did not expect that level of pain but here is the thing: some people have a lot of pain, some have very little. It will depend on your surgeon and your body. The gas is uncomfortable but mine was gone in a week. The main incision (where they remove the stomach and is normally the most painful) was dramatically improved at week two. And thank God because that bugger hurt. But Ann is right. Even if you are one who has a lot of pain, take those pain meds and rest. It is temporary. You will get through it. And you will lose a lot of weight. So keep reminding yourself of the prize. It's why we are all here. It's a hard surgery but I promise you will look back and be glad you did it.

Oh and your sense of taste may change! But it is temporary and look at the bright side! It will give you even less incentive to want to eat. So force that Protein and Water down and know you are making great strides on your weight loss.

Day 8 and I am feeling amazingly better than when I started this post. I am slowly getting closer to my Protein and Water goals. I am still sleeping in the recliner because laying flat is still really uncomfortable. I am counting the days until I can be back in my bed, with my pillows, my hubby, and my pooch. I am past the regret and wondering if I did the right thing. I am down 20#'s from my starting weight, 13#'s from my surgical date.

Make sure you stay on top of your pain meds and walk ! I'm 9 days post op and every time I get gas pain I walk around the house. It seems to help me. Good luck and try to look at the big picture and your goal weight !

How do you get rid of the spasms under the diaphragm? I can't drink because when I do I get a spasm that hurts like hell.

Wish I had never done this.

I believe it takes longer than 6 weeks for our new stomachs to heal completely. That's the main reason we have more capacity 6 to 12 months out. By then, our tummy tissue has grown over the staple line and ALL the swelling has gone down.

Here's a good thread on this subject, complete with pictures taken at 8 months post-op of one patient's staple line and skin regrowth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
