One week post op

Recommended Posts

I know it's the first week, but it's frustrating to see that there is nothing down the first week, I lost 10 pounds in my liquid diet. I must give it time but I keep thinking It will work for me? :(

It'll work. I'm a week and a half out from surgery and I'm down 22lbs. I had my 10 day post op appointment with my surgeon today. Needless to say, I was stoked. When I got home from the hospital, I didn't know how I was going to do this. My family was eating burritos, and I was eating some chicken broth. It sucked. After weighing in today, I have the boost that I need. I feel great! I've only said this to say that this too shall pass. You will make it and you will be okay.

I was sleeved on 11/06/14 and (just like you) I lost more on my pre-op diet than I did after my first week out.

My one month appt is December 5th and I know I will see the scale results then. I need to follow the full liquid diet for 2 weeks and then puréed foods.

Let's keep in contact to cheer each other on!!

I had surgery 11/13, 2 days post op and I gained 7 lbs in the hospital, had lost 12 lbs pre op and was so discouraged. Nothing happening now, just struggling to get 60 oz liquid down a day. Do people count Protein Shakes towards liquid? I hope this gets easier.

No way am I able to get 64oz liquid a day and that's including Protein Shakes. My sleeve date was 11-4 and I'm lucky if I can get 40oz but I try tiny sip here sip there slowly I get what I can in each day. The NUT said this was normal it would be easier to get my 64 in the months to come but don't push it. Slow and steady wins the race :)

I had a lot of gas with the thick shakes and just recently switched out to drinking the tea-like Protein supplement (Isopure). My nutritionist recommended it since I didn't like sweet drinks and have problems with lactose. To me, the Isopure ready to drink Green Tea Lemonade tastes like one of those Arizona green tea drinks. I highly recommend it as far as the non shake type Proteins.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
