I am 8 days post surgery and I will be up and ready to go buy one I am out for about an hour and a half I really start to drag and need to go home. I can't really do the Protein Shakes they make me sick I have tried the unflavored doctor told me not to worry as I will be on to the next stage soon enough, but I also feel I am not getting enough fluids in either I started drinking Powerade zero hoping it would help. When will it get better should I call my doctor

Ok, so I am hardly an expert since I'm only 7 days post-op myself, but I think you might need to cut yourself some slack. Even though you don't have outward signs of major surgery, you did, in fact, have major abdominal surgery. It will take time for you to get your energy back. Low energy levels are your body's way of saying "I'm still healing...all energy should be expended to that result".

As for the Protein shakes, etc., I'm with you on that....I don't like them. Didn't like them pre-op, and like them less now!! My philosophy is that I will follow the rules as closely as I can, and live with it. Eventually it will all settle into normalcy.

7 days post op my self and no energy. Surgeon said I'm not allowed Protein Drinks like Optifast so now I use unflavoured Protein Powder in yogurt and Soup which I get around 80g Protein a day. It will take time I'm just gonna try get as much protein in daily as I can.

I'm three weeks out and still have low energy. I usually take a 2 hour nap. I'm getting in the

suggested 30 minute walk 5 days a week. As hard as that is. I'm always whipped after it but at

least get it doe. As others have said you had major surgery. It takes a toll on your body. Need

to give it time to heal. I'm wondering myself how I'm going to make it going back to work on

Monday. I'm a certified nurses assistant so I don't have an easy laid back job. It's very

physically active with not much down time, especially during the day.

Oh, man. I didn't even leave the house for weeks! Yes, give yourself a break. Even at a few weeks, when I went out and about by myself, I was wiped out by a few hours. I would go for a brisk walk in the mornings, get showered and out the door. And about an hour into errands, I thought I'd need to nap in the car b/c I couldn't even make it home! But you've got to drink, even if you don't want to. And you do need calories & Protein. I'm 3 months out and I still have a shake in the mornings to be sure I'll have enough Protein that day. Play around with different brands - maybe a plant-based protein would suit you better? My favorite at the moment is vanilla powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury with a few teaspoons of espresso powder blended with milk. It's the only way I can drink caffeine b/c of reflux and the espresso taste masks the whey taste. Good luck and go slow!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
