New! surgery booked for the 12 of January

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Kaitie,

I am a 20 year old university student from Queensland Australia,

Im 120 kg so I think thats around 265 lbs and 159 cm or 5'2

I have been over weight my whole life, the chubby middle child in-between my two gorgeous and thin sisters.

I have tried everything under the sun and have finally made the decision to have a gastric sleeve.

looking for any tips/ pieces of advice for preparing for before and after surgery and anyones weight loss stories in general

over weight my whole life

@@kaitieb

welcome, welcome, welcome to sleeveland :)

glad you found our little group :)

you are having surgery on my b'day

i will be 61 years young on January 12 :)

side note to my fellow WLS people

i will be accepting b'day gifts and cards starting in January

i know how you feel about being the middle child with the other 2 being normal weight

I am the 2nd oldest of 5 kids

they were ALL lovely, normal (or thinner weight)

I was frequently "reminded" of this with different stares and comments

you have a couple of months before your sleeve

continue to read these boards

research about the sleeve

go on the internet and explore bariatric surgery

go to U-tube, you'll see many videos with peoples experiences

here are some weight loss "rules" you will be following for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life :)

try and practice doing them now

get used to a few things :)

below are just a few of the many things you must learn Post surgery

drink 64 oz of Water a day

stop drinking about 30 minutes before you eat

never, ever, ever drink while you are eating

don't drink for about 45-60 minutes after you eat

take teeny, tiny, tiny bites

chew thoroughly into little pieces

put fork down and start again

always measure your food

keep records/diary on a board for tracking your intake

many people used MFP - my fitness pal

my history is pretty basic

around the age of 13 i started to gain weight, up, up and away

yo yo dieted all my adult life

i would loose the weight, regain +

could never maintain

i had physical problems stemming from my weight

diabetes/insulin - high blood pressure - CPAP - and many meds - back problems

PO i quicly lost the diabetes meds, CPAP and blood pressure meds etc

i am at a great place now :)

healthier and happier i've EVER been :)

kathy

good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
