Hello,

I am scheduled to have surgery on May 21st! I am excited, but a little scared. Not sure what to expect. This is my question..........how bad is the pain during recovery? Is it reasonable to expect to go back to work in a couple of days instead of taking a whole week off?

I have been reading alot of the threads and I identify with so many of you. My difference is that I have had a previous gastric bypass about 13 years ago. I feel like such a loser for gaining the weight back! - but am blessed with two beautiful daughters to show for it! I have been struggling with feeling selfish for wanting this surgery so bad - I am a self pay. My husband said we will just have to treat it like a car payment and my life is more important. - I hope he still feels that way after a few years of payments! lol

Well, if any of you have had a prior gastric bypass or if anyone has any thoughts for me, I welcome the comments. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Christy

Welcome CAWalsh, and congratulations on your upcoming date.

I didn't experience very much pain after the surgery, except for the pain in my left shoulder that was referred from the diaphragm. I was banded the same time as a friend and she suffered much less with it.

As far as being selfish, I don't believe that you are. See this as an investment in your family. Remember, what's good for Mom is good for everyone. I'm sure your kids will want you to be a grandparent to their own children someday.

Congratulations.....I am happy that you have a surgery date set...that is great..I had some pain....not anything that was unbearable...I did take my meds, and I had so much gas, but the liquid gas-x took care of it....I couldn't go back to work after just a couple of days....I had to be off for over a week...but.....I am 54 years old....and I also had a hernia repaired at the same time I had the surgery...so....I think alot of the pain I had was from that and not the banding...I hurt in my back...

good luck...hope all goes well....

Hello, I don't think you are being selfish at all, I think you are being a loving mother to want to be better ,and live longer, for your children and yourself. I have a quick question for someone, I need to lose about 140lbs, can I do that with the lap band, or would Gastric bypass be the one for me? If your pcp recomends you for lap band, is that what you have to get, or can the surgeon get the insurance company to pay for either? I'm not against the lap band, but i just want to make sure i get the right one for me, which ever it is. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, all in all, I am feeling okay. I am trying to get all my liquids in, seems to be hard, I feel overfull a lot. Crazy huh??? Anyway, I have been dealing with a headache and I am not sure if it is from the surgery or from my sinuses acting up. I do have seasonal allergies. Who knows! I was at the hospital by 6am and out of the hospital same day by almost 3pm. No regrets, just wish I could lay down comfortably. That seems to be an issue as well. Other than those few things, I can honestly say that I am glad I did this. Good luck to you and cannot wait to hear how you are doing. Take Care!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
