I've read quite a few "what's for breakfast" posts the last couple of days and I've been surprised to see Cereal and milk as one of the Breakfast options that some folks eat. I was just wondering how that worked since we aren't supposed to have any liquid with our meals because of washing food from the pouch? My NUT says no to it but I was wondering if others say it's okay? I miss having that quick option for breakfast but I'm afraid to try it. What's your opinion?

Carol

I find that it doesn't stick with me as long as eggs or oatmeal. I make both in the microwave so they are really fast choices as well.

I stick with Protein for breakfast, so I usually drink a shake or have a Greek yogurt. If I look at the nutritional value of a bowl of cereal, there's just not enough protein and way too many carbs for me.

I typically have greek yogurt or eggs for breakfast as well. I guess I was just surprised to see so many having cereal and milk at the same time.

I eat cereal for breakfast sometimes. It's 7 grams of Protein if I don't eat nuts with it. I get more than enough protein daily so the variety in my meals is worth it.

@@Amyllf2 do you use milk with it or eat it plain? I'm not concerned about the Protein, I'm just curious about the milk washing the cereal from the pouch since we can't drink when we eat. I've added it to my yogurt, but I've not had cereal with milk. My NUT doesn't even want us to eat Soup unless we drain most of the broth off.

I have three fourths cup cereal and one half cup of milk. That does not make my bowl very liquidy. Although I don't drink while I eat, I don't always eat solid food. I eat a lot of yogurt which most people don't use because it is not a solid. So I figured the cereal and milk is no different. I am not hungry at all during the day no matter what I eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
