LONGEST. STALL. EVERRRR.

Recommended Posts

I am week 7 post op and I've lost two pounds in tbe last two weeks!!! Very disappointed as I watch coworkers splurge and have things I'll prob never have again. On average im consuming 600-700 calories daily, workout 5 days week, per body media band I have an hour to an hour and a half of moderate exercise (teacher so I move around a lot), average 60 grams Protein daily, less than 50g carbs daily... Blah blah BLAH!!! I'm trying to find non-weight victories to help motivate me through this slow patch... WHAT'S WRONG?!? Today I will try to drink Water until I float away... Hahaha it's the only thing I have left to try!!! HELP!!!!!

I mix GENEPRO (unflavored Protein 30 grams) with crystal light. I stop at the Sonic in the morning and get a big cup of ice. I keep it at my desk and sip on it all morning. I mix another one in the afternoon and sip it all afternoon. Great way to get your proteinand Water in.

My first thought while reading this is you are doing everything right but you don't eat enough. I would increase Protein too.

That could be the issue right there! You are NOT eating enough. you need to eat 6 times a day. even a tidbit will help. You body is in starvation mode! I just went to my Nut meeting and she said if you are not eating enough you will not lose! You need to check out what others are eating but Never go that long without eating! Keep us posted!

Ok are you allow to get your Protein from shakes. If you are you may want to drink your protein then I am 3 month post op. SO I am 13 weeks. I snack twice a day I eat something or drink my protein . In the morning about 6:30-7 am I drink my Protein Shake or smoothie which will have 30 grams of protein it takes me 45 min to 1 hour to finish it then 30 min to 40 min after I will have a high protein snack like cheese that's only thing my stomach likes then another Protein Drink lunch since I only eat bite or two. I will have some type of protein like chicken or tuna I only able to eat 1/4 and I am full then at dinner another type of protein chicken tuna or turkey. If I feel I didn't get another protein from food I drink another shake

A couple of things... First, you may be experiencing The Dreaded Week-3 Stall, only a little later than most. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again like crazy!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

But even more importantly, make sure you get in 64+ ounces of Water every day. I know it seems counter-intuitive, since stalls are often caused by water retention, but it's really important! And please, please, don't focus on others "splurging" while you don't/can't. That's deprivation thinking. Try to reinforce that what you're doing is making healthy choices and finding a new way to live. Once you get past this stall, everything will look a lot rosier! Good luck!!!

Thanks for all your input... I have been trying to add calories this week (last week I posted the same thing and was eating 500). It's crazy how most of my life I've "dieted" and so my first thoughts are.... "How and what can I cut back"??? I def like the idea of adding Protein to my water/flavored Water. i need to do that in the afternoons. I do drink a intex Protein Shake in the mornings for Breakfast. it has 31 grams of protein. The rest I try to get from a meat at each meal, paired with some yogurt or cottage cheese. I have been more brave lately, trying bites of "normal things". We made tacos the other night, so I had my first corn shell. Although I only ate 1/2 of it, the "carbs" were great... haha What are some of the things you guys are pairing with your grilled/baked meats? ? I haven't tried many fruits, veggies and NOTHING sweet yet.

You need more Protein and calories. When you factor in the exercise that you're doing and the calories that are naturally burned from routine activities, you probably only have a net caloric intake of 200-300 calories per day.

Your body can not thrive on so little fuel, and until your caloric and protein intake increases (fats included), that stall will linger. Eat more calories!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
