I had my surgery this morning around 7:30am. So far everything is great and I'm not having any issues. I also met a lady that is a member on here that had her surgery today too. Hope I've found a new long term friend :)

I am at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital in Houston, off I-10 and Gessner. I have followed all my directions to the T. I've been up walking since 5 this evening and can feel the air(gas) moving to exits. I have not had anything by mouth yet, but my pain is minimal. I am on a morphine drip I can use if I want, but I haven't had reason to us since after my first walk at 5pm today. I have no regrets what so ever. I know I have a long road ahead and will keep you posted on how my first liquid goes tomorrow. I did need pain meds asap when I woke up in recovery, I was so soar.

UPDATE: Passed my upper G.I this morning so I started Clear Liquids this morning. I've had a bit of Water, a few teaspoons of chicken broth, and about an 1oz of a sugar free popsicle. I have not had any issues yet and I am feeling better and better with time. My pain is and has been stable around a 2-3 on the pain chart. I am being very proactive and walking as much as possible, not just when I'm asked. Walking will be your best friend, it helps pass the gas faster which takes away the pressure you will feel. Don't be afraid to ask for pain meds either. Everything is just going so well guys :)

I had my surgery on Monday. Very little pain, mostly gas discomfort. The more you walk the better it will be for you. Focus on taking in as many liquids as you can. Good luck

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
