I was started on colace in the hospital. I had surgery on Thursday and didn't have my first post op poo until Monday. However, I wasn't uncomfortable because I had done the pre-op diet and I though once I had enough food in me, something would give. I was peeing just fine. I was discharged on full liquids. Sunday I was really windy but not painfully so. Monday I went with no straining and I've been regular since.

Try the tea. If you aren't back to normal try taking a stool softer like colace.

I have had problems with Constipation a few times since Jan 2014. I have taken stool softeners (generic ones from Wal-Mart), which helped, also taken Metamucil in with my fruit smoothies, that really works, and I have found that if I eat sugar-free candy, it really helps. Hopefully this will help you. Good Luck, Chris

I suffered from "killer" Constipation for the first six to eight weeks after my surgery. I started taking Probiotics (the GNC 50 billion probiotic complex). It took a couple of weeks to make a difference, but I haven't had a problem since then. Full disclosure: I also eat two Hershey's special dark mildly sweet Sugar Free Chocolates every day. That maltitol really gets you going!

Mmm I need to get those! It's my favorite! Lol like I said I've always fought with it. Usually activia daily helped. But I've cut out sugar so haven't had any. So I've done colace for 2 days and took Mirilax today. I finally moved a little. I'm sure when I do break loose I'm gonna feel soooo much better. Lol

All of that works for me. I take the stool softeners every day. I take a magnesium supplement every day. I eat sugar free candy every day. (Read the Amazon reviews for sugar free Haribo Gummy Bears. I bought some in bulk right after surgery. Within four hours they work as well as the liquid you have to drink to prep for a colonoscopy.) If you have people you don't like at work just put some in a candy jar on your desk.

I also swear by the Smooth Move Tea. I bought several flavors to keep on hand, but the chocolate is my favorite because I can steep some in my hot chocolate at bedtime and add a little sugar free whip cream.

I finished the stool softeners a week ago, but so far I'm doing okay. I go at least once a day. I 'm allergic to artificial sweeteners but as long as I drink plenty of Water and add in a bit of fresh fruit and green veg, I'm good.

I was having a terrible problem with this as well. It was extremely uncomfortable and painful at times. I found a solution that works for me. I now go everyday without any problem. I take two 2 tsp doses of benefiber with Water during the day. I take 1 dose of Miralax each night before bed. It took about three days for it to work but since that time it has worked perfectly. Good luck.

When I could finally eat a full Quest bar at 4 months out that helped. I eat only a few a week.

How far out are you from surgery? When you are able, eat some peas or Beans (blackeye, lima, purple hull, whatever). Just get a can and mush them with a fork. My Nut told me they are all on my menu. They work great for me, even small amounts. Another thing that works well for me is trail mix. I get the unsalted ones with lots of little nuts and seeds. You have to be far enough along to eat them but I eat a bite or two all through the day. Good Protein and great Fiber. Hope you feel better soon!

The first few weeks the Constipation was awful. I ended up taking suppositories to get some relief. After that, I took stool softeners for a few weeks. That helped a lot. Good luck.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
