fitday.com and other calorie counters--any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I have not been banded yet (waiting on insurance approval). However, I am trying to "change my habits now" by watching my calorie intake. :hungry: I saw on another post about counting daily calories using fitday.com. I found it a bit tideous because I could find nutritional values for food that I ate in restaurants.

I eat out quite a bit--I may have to stop once banded---is there an online site that lends itself to counting calories of restaurants? Anxious to begin...

thedailyplate.com has more restaurant calorie values than fitday.com does. I use fitday becuase that's what I started using when I began my last lap of the journey to the Band and it doesn't make me break up my day into Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I work nights so I prefer just a running total per day. Some days I do it sun up to sun down, others I do it sun down to sun up and I can do that easily with fitday. I've been using fitday since late January and I've lost 42lbs, I am NOT banded yet. I haven't really been watching what I eat other than cutting out anything made with enriched flours (I've backslid this week a bit, but not too bad), sugars, simple starches. I am logging EVERY BITE. It is a bit tedious with fitday to put in so many custom foods, but most every restaurant has their nutrition information on their websites, I just go there and copy it over to fitday. Usually the websites offer the ability to customize the foods and I prefer to move the info over because I frequently customize my foods.

sparkpeople.com is one a lot of folks use, I didn't like the format and though they have more foods than fitday, thedailyplate beats out sparkpeople for lists of foods, hands down.

For looking up restaurant foods calorieking.com has I think the most of anyplace I've seen.

Good Luck!

I use sparkpeople.com I like it much better than fitday. Have not tried dailyplate yet I might do that. I find I am logging in several times a day and enter all my exercise. I used to hate the food diary thing but now that I am banded I really feel the need to track everything. good luck

I used fitday.com religiously when I first started my journey. I loved it. I liked that it was just a running total of the day and you could enter in custom foods. I stopped using it, and I think that is a big reason I have slowed in my losing...I am vowing to start using fitday.com again. I think it will help me stay on track. At least there are choices out there for everyone's preferences and needs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
