It's GO time....almost

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I am being 'banded' tomorrow! I have so many feelings and thoughts whirling around between these ears right now; nervous, excited, scared....most of all though, I am feeling exceedingly grateful. The opportunity to have this surgery is one that too many people will never know, millions of people suffer with obesity, and I am a fortunate member of an all too small group of 'approved' individuals. Individuals who, after laying bare their very personal medical records, and jumping through extra large hoops for an extra long time, have been deemed 'worthy' to proceed, proceed with a surgical procedure that could improve the quality of life for millions of deserving people.

GO time.....almost, and I am grateful.

Woo hoo, Dakota Girl!

ALMOST THERE! Please keep us posted on how things go. I am excited for you... and would love to hear how it went! I'm following other "newbies" quite closely to get the idea of their experience as my surgery isn't until mid-December. I am following the stories of others who are blazing the trail before me! So much to think about, so much to learn.

Best of luck and brightest blessings for an easy banding - !

Be kind to yourself tomorrow (and may you have a good sleep tonight!)

WOO HOO!

I'm also a ready-to-go bandit! My surgery is 11/25/14. I am 5'2" and 207#. I'm 48 y/o female and ready to end my addiction to sugar, fast food and gulping volumes of food without thinking! I am a self-pay because I am not interested in jumping through HMO rings of fire and wait and wait and wait - that's MY life ticking by, folks! As a RN, I did a lot of research on lap banding and feel it is the absolute right choice for me. My goal is to lose about 80# and I think that's fairly reasonable. Never been big on the exercise but that is what also contributed to a BMI of 41. Diabetes, heart disease, stroke, etc. all run in my immediate family and is in my immediate future if I don't make a change and this is the change I elect. I am getting more excited by the minute and hope to share my journey on this forum with all of you.

Surgery is never easy but letting my life fly by without me isn't a cake walk either! I am READY!

Deez, how many days did it take you to get up and moving? Did you have outpatient procedure (I am supposed to go home a few hours post-surgery) or were you required to stay overnight?

Thanks!

Mary

Hi Mary,

It was a day surgery for me, I was in and out in less than 4 hours.

I was up and moving almost right away, it was painful but I forced myself to slowly walk (as recommend by everyone). The walking helped tremendously with the recovery and the left shoulder gas pains. The shoulder pain luckily only lasted 2 days for me. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work the following Monday.

I stayed the night because of my sleep apnea. Walked as soon as I could. Stayed an extra night in Toronto. My friend drove me two hours away to another hotel and I went into a store to buy a few things. Take things easy. No lifting. Rest. Walk and drink Water. Take care of yourself. Enjoy the journey

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
