Advice please!

Recommended Posts

On Thursday I will be 6 months post op. I have lost around 34 lbs and I have had two fill. My band is at 6cc out of 11cc. I do not believe I have got the green zone yet because I can feel myself starting to slip back into old bad habits and I have even gained a few pounds. Everyone in my family knows about my surgery which adds extreme pressure and anxiety. They are constantly pointing out that I haven't lost enough and that by this point I should be at least 60+ pounds lighter. I need advice on how to deal with the pressures of others judging your weight loss and how to get back on track so I can start losing again. I was thinking about just doing my pre op diet for 2 weeks to kick my butt back into gear. Any suggestions??

First of all congrats on your 34lbs. that is fantastic!!

Every person and body type is different, so how do THEY know how much you should be losing? Right answer: THEY DON'T. It's easy to stand on the sidelines and be a critic.

Obviously you're losing exactly what you should be losing for YOU. Keep in mind that you did this for you and not anyone else! In my opinion I think you're worrying too much about what other people are saying and thinking which is making you stress, which is what may be impacting as you said "getting into your old habits". Block those people out! Remember who you did this for and why. Get that motivation to prove them wrong and to yourself that you can and will do this.

I don't know how far or what you mean by getting back into old habits so if you want to share what some of those are maybe I can give you some more specific pointers but if it were me and I knew that I had gotten way off course, then yes, I would reset from the beginning with pre-op, maybe not for 2 weeks but for a few days, then slowly progress to your mushies etc.

You can do it, just get all of that negativity out of your head and get that determination and you WILL succeed!!!

People were like that with me as well when i first had my surgery it fell off very slowly there were people who lost twice as much as me in the first couple of months but i learned that everyone is different and that it will eventually come off and it did when i fell back into my old habits i did get a small fill which helped then i got a work out buddy and we started working out together so that i could get into a good routine i still catch myself going to my old ways but then i have to remind myself that if i keep up my old ways ill be the old me and that pretty much helps me get back on track

There is no "should"! Tell them all that the average loss is 1-2lbs a week and that means some people may be losing 3lbs a week and some less than a pound, that's how averages work! The band is not about fast loss

They may not have taken on board the fact that we don't have any malabsorption and mist banded oeople eat around 1000-1200 a day. Just like someone following WeghtWatchers. So we don't lose any faster than a WW dieter would lose!

Just seen the 2nd part of the Q. If by going back to ore-op you mean liquids - no! The band is designed to work with dense solids not liquids, so that would be simple masochism!

But going back to good band eating, yes. Appropriate portions of dense Protein, followed by crunchy veggies with complex carbs at the end if room. Eat and walk away. Count any Snacks in the daily total, avoid liquid calories.

Getting out of bad habits can be done. I have had to pull myself back on track many times in my almost 9 years. And I have always managed it!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
