December 2014 Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm doing better. Pain isn't so bad. A bit of advice gas really hurts so get something to help you with gas.. It has came in handy.. I'm up walking around and feel great. Normal soreness is all I'm having today which is great. It is the best decision I've ever made.

Hello all, my surgery was yesterday, 12/17, @ 8:30am. It went very well my surgeon said. I felt really bad all day yesterday with nausea and pain. My back hurt a lot which I was told was from lying on the operating table. I kept using my pain pump and slept on and off until 5am today. Today I feel better. They took out the catheter out @ 6am and I've urinated on my own twice since then. I had to have xrays done while I drank a barium solution so they could watch for any leaks. No leaks were detected. I walked the hallways of the hospital and now I'm sitting in a chair having my first Protein Drink - Hormel healthy shot - 23 g. Protein in 2.5 oz. bottle. I diluted it in ice Water and only taking in 1 oz. Per hour to start with. I also progressed to taking pain meds orally rather than IV. Hopefully I'll go home tomorrow.

I am alive. First couple days were super rough. I am home now and keeping down fluids. I have been walking around the block and limiting the pain meds. The first 2 days I kept asking myself what was I thinking. But I have an awesome supportive husband who kept encouraging me and taking care of me. I am excited for the progression and the journey. Thankful for the support here.

Congratulations brightlife and texascurves. It sounds like things are progressing normally. I'm glad to hear it. Speedy recovery to both of you.

be careful with collagen protein, because us gastic bypass folks can't absorb it like our old normal stomachs could have. You want to look for protein isolate, to make sure your getting all your protein in. Good luck with your recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
