I am pre op right now. Only nervous about the anesthesia. To make a long story short... the 6 month process I had to do for my insurance to approve the surgery? Turned out to be a 8-9 month process. Not because I did anything wrong or didn't do something. ..but because doc appointments sometimes have no opening right away. Anyways. I was at 272 now I am at 252. I don't have much support. I am doing this because I wanna be healthy not just to romp around with my son...but to be able to move around more. I have plantar fasciitis. You can look that term up. I also have a fatty liver. I have been eating healthier for 5yrs.... no thyroid problems ect. I have a Cpap machine now. Thos surgery I believe in my heart will help a great deal.

You are not alone. Everyone here on this site will help support you in your journey. I started my journey at the first of the year and like you it took a little longer to get my 6months because of schedule and waiting for test results. Stay positive. I started this journey for me. Others have often heard me say I'm healthy just fat. I'm not being negative it's reality people can't sometimes grasp. So I'm doing something to help me with the weight so I can live longer and be healthier when I'm 90. I started at 348..day of surgery 310 and today I haven't checked. Today is day 7. One week ago at this time I was in surgery. One huge leap into a new found life. Everything has gone unexpectedly smooth and no issues except for nausea. So if u need a buddy. I'm here along with many many others on this site. Hugs

Good for you taking the steps to a healthier future. You are going to be so happy you made this decision. It is a wonderful tool. I started out at 271 pre surgery and after four and a half months I now weigh 185. I had a fatty liver too and it's now gone, my cholesterol is now normal and I feel great. I can walk for miles again!! Good luck to you and your success; you can do it!!!

Yea I was at 272. I'm down to 252 and am pre op. I dunno how I lost that weight but what I do know is.... meds that were supposed to help my mental health..is one thing I stopped taking and I consumed more Protein and now am getting "Real" sleep. I know I'm doing the right thing. Once I am able to walk more....pffft I wanna get a job.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
