pre-op visit tomorrow! why is it set for 2 hours?

Recommended Posts

I just had my pre-op today. It consisted of meeting with my surgeon, one hour nutrition class going over poe-op diet as well as lots post-op diet and general stuff, then I got to go get more blood work to ensure my Vitamin levels were good, a chest x-ray and an eeg (or was it EKG... The one that takes longer to hook up than to run)...

My surgeon was running an hour behind but all that only took 3 hours.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much. I've been on my liquid diet for a week tomorrow. My surgery is set for a week from tomorrow on November 18. Hope I don't have to do all of that also but I'll do it if it's required. Lol. I already had my surgery postponed a few weeks due to my thyroid level being low. That's in the clear, now.

My pre-op appointment was also 2 hours. 1 hour with the surgeon going over all the risks and benefits and alternatives. Then an hour with the coordinator going over what will happen right before and after surgery.

Had my pre-op appt today. It was scheduled for 2 hours but was over in an hour. It was with the nurse. When this all started, I started with a seminar just to hear what was what. I had labs done. Xrays. EKG. Lung test. Lymphedema treatments (those continue). Meetings with dietician and exercise therapist and surgeon. Two 2-hour long educational classes-very informative. Today's appt was with the nurse for a refresher on majority of things that were covered in the classes with a few new things. They were just making sure the patient isn't bombarded all at once or blindsided. Love my doc and his whole staff. So, I've been on the liquid diet solid for 1 week with 1 week left. Then, it's surgery on the 18th at 7:30 am. I am the first case. WOO HOO!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
