Please Help Food Cravings

Recommended Posts

Im in my second week of pre-op diet and finding my cravings for food is getting strong. I'm doing my liquids, bay foods, and Soups ect: I'm getting tired of Protein Shakes and desiring hot foods. I'm walking and finding myself very hungry afterwards. The most I can find that is satisfying is egg drop Soup and staining the eggs to keep me from going off track. Any suggestions

Try using other things to distract you. Go to the movie theater, read a book, take a long bubble bath, paint your nails, chew on pellet ice, or journal.

I chose a variety of shakes. One of them was Prosource. I could add that to tea or soup because it was a liquid. There's nothing wrong with hot foods. Just stick to those that can give you some Protein. Try a few cream soups.

It's all in the mind sweety, once you start really losing the weight -- in about another 2 weeks, you'll be sooo motivated that these food cravings won't be the center of your mind anymore, you'll see.... For now remember to keep hydrated, keep walking and occupy yourself with other things... Good Luck, it does get better!!!

I'm just about 2 weeks post op as well and I have to do two weeks of full liquids as opposed to one. Yes, the choices are getting old and boring but Cream of Wheat has become my best friend! I have this at least once a day. What I like about it is, I can make it savory or sweet and it's hot and out of all the foods I can have during this phase, this actually fills me up. Yesterday I was shopping and bought some of those Campbell's on the go Soups. They are creamy and much more satisfying than broth. Yogurt has also been comforting because this was one food I was missing and now I have it for Breakfast every morning and I have milk before bed.

Two things to remember: this phase is only temporary and if everything everyone says is true, the pureed stage will make a big difference in filling up our little tummy's!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
