Losing slower?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I am now in the dreaded 3 week stall and I am trying really hard not to freak out about it because it is sort of expected, at least out here in "patient land". My Dr.Never mentioned it.

The question is do you think that we elders lose slower than the youngsters? I am 4 weeks post op, I am in a stall and I have only lost 9 lbs since surgery, at least according to my scale. (The Drs scale reads heavier, but that is due to randon times of day, fully dressed vs buck naked, etc) If you include pre-op diet, I have lost a more respectable 21 lbs and over all I am happy with that, but I guess I was expecting more.

I feel like I am eating nothing getting in my 70 gs of Protein and 7-900 cals/day.

Barry

Hang in there, Barry! The stall lasts 2-3 weeks, but then goes away. I couldn't understand your last sentence, but if you're getting 70-90 grams of Protein (and 64+ ounces of water) in every day, at this point you're doing great. And 700-900 calories should be good for quite some time. If that's what you're already doing, then keep it up! If it's not, well you're still early in the process. Keep working towards that goal. Good luck!

I hit that 3 week stall at like a week and a half. It lasted a full 3 weeks and since then, I have been losing very slowly. Same as you with calories and Protein. I've been working out 4-5 days a week as well. I have a follow up appt today and am taking my food journal in to my dietitian to see if she has any ideas.

I'm in week 3 of the stall too. Praying it breaks this week. I'm going to they gym between 2 & 4 times a week, so hoping the muscle I'm building will kick in and start burning some of that off. On the bright side - my clothes are getting looser and the donation pile is getting bigger!

Question - how many, if any, Protein drinks do you drink a day. I was drinking 2 and cut back to one, which I'm thinking may not have been a good idea. Going back to 2 this week to see if that helps.

I drink one shake unless I think I will miss my Protein goal. If I am thinking I will miss my protein goal I will have a 2nd shake for one of my Snacks. That doesn't happen too often.

I think once you stop retaining the stall Fluid, you'll start dropping if you follow your program, which is probably 60-90g of Protein and 64+ oz of Fluid every...single...day! As for the Protein shakes, I completely agree with rumpol6 – I have a Premier shake (30g protein) every morning, and if for any reason I'm short of my Protein goal for the day, I'll have another at night (infrequent). Again, if you're still in the Week-3 Stall, if you stick to your program it will break and the weight will come off regardless of what else you do. At least that's been my experience. Good luck!!!

Thanks Rogofulm, I was thrilled that they scale moved at all, so I'm definitely keeping the Protein levels up!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
