Stress and NOT eating

Recommended Posts

Going through another stressful time where I don't want to eat. I've lost 5 lbs in 4 days. It's a temporary loss, I know that. I think my meals yesterday consisted of half a beef stick and not quite all of a Protein Shake and coffee. This is such a weird reaction.

Please don't punish your body for your mind's stress. If you can't face "real food" for a few days, have 3-4 Protein shakes instead until you can get it back together. Good luck!

Stress has been an interesting factor for me in the last month or so. I am in the midst of a very stressful time that will last for around another month, and I found myself with severe headches and vision changes starting around one month ago. I finally went to my PCP and got checked out, and also sent me to an opthamologist. In the end, they determined that everything was a result of cluster Migraines probably from stress.

I never used to have migraines. I wondered what was wrong with me now and why I couldn't cope like I used to. Then, I realized that I no longer use the drug of food that I used to use. Basically, my way of coping with stress before May 2014 is no more. That realization was very freeing, since I know that my migraines from stress aren't because I am less capable of dealing with stress, but because I am more capable of taking care of myself. I have worked to find new ways to reduce stress including exercise and adequate sleep, and I have taken some other measures to reduce visual strain.

In reading the post about not eating due to stress, I'm not quite there. I still mentally crave the food I used to medicate myself with, but none of them are very appetizing. If I do take a bite or taste of a carb-heavy comfort food, I either spit it out bc I think its disgusting, or I only take one bite. My excepition and downfall is Club crackers, so they are no longer allowd to live at my house:)

If you want to stall weight loss then keep starving your body. It will go into a defensive survival mode. Discipline yourself to eat your Protein and drink your Water. I would avoid the coffee for now. Coffee should be an occasional treat.

I'm not intentionally trying to starve myself. It's my reaction to stress. I get so sick to my stomach I could puke. You would think I would stall but I don't. It's really a strange reaction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
