How is your fill done?

Recommended Posts

When I go to get a fill, the Dr has me lay down, he inserts the needled then has me sit up, he then takes injects the fill until it starts pushing liquid back inti syringe. It's been 9 months and I only have 3.6cc. I don't feel like there is much restriction, haven't lost weight in couple months now. Getting pretty frustrated about this.

@@verna2197 it seems to me an odd way of doing the fills, to wait for liquid to push back into the syringe...if liquid is pushing back into the syringe I would think that means the band is full...but your not if you are only at 3.6. What size band do you have?

Is there another Dr. or PA in the practice that you could see for your fills? I know different Dr.'s have different ways of doing fills. Some Dr.'s do them under fluoroscope and some like mine just add in a few CC's at a time and if you can drink Water with no trouble after the fill your good and they send you home.

Do a little research at your Dr.'s office and let them know that your not happy with the volume of fill you have in right now and see if they can assist you.

Let us know how it goes OK?

Yes he does have me drink Water and I never have any problems. How do I find the band size?

@@verna2197 you would need to ask your doctor. It's good to know what type of band you have installed. Allergan (lapband) or Realize band. They come in different sizes. I have an Allgeran Lapband size 10cc.

You can always call the office and ask them to check your file, you don't need to wait to speak with the Dr.

My surgeon has me lie down with my arms over my head and I don't sit up again until after the fill. There is a specific amount in the needle and that's what he puts in. I am some one who required several fills to get to the green zone. As I lost weight I'd have to go back for another tiny fill. Haven't done that in a while and think I don't need to yet, but it's always in the back of my mind that I may require another fill here and there over time. At one point I got a little taken out. It's a moving target.

@@verna2197 Definitely go in to see the Dr. you said you have approx 3.4 cc so you have room to add more if you need to.

What you are looking for in terms of "restriction" are satiation signals. Eating a small tennis ball sized meal, Protein first of course and then not being hungry for at least 3-4 hours after. The food should be of solid consistency not a smoothy or slider food like Soup.

If you find that your volume is higher, or your hungry and soon after you have eaten then you may need a tweak to the band.

If you are not able to tolerate solid foods, then your band could be too tight.

Here is a guide I stole from CG's post earlier, it will help to define where you want to be in terms of eating and fill level.

Wow how often do you get your fills? You just had surgery and 2 fills already I only go back once a month and get a fill. Couple times I did not get one on account of throwing up from eating to fast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
