Whats a reasonable goal

Recommended Posts

Im 245, in day 2 of pre-op diet. Will be sleeved in the 18th of Nov. What is a good goal? How much could I possibly lose before the new year? I want to make the best of my "honeymoon" period. I do best with goals

The best strategy may be to Iron this out with your surgeon and your NUT. My opinion is to Take your current weekly or monthly weight loss pre op and average it. Then apply that to the remaining time left. Subtract from your current weight and maybe that will give you a good starting Point.

Very rough, I know, but you want to start somewhere. You can always adjust or set new goals afterwards.

Good luck!

@@Brn2blossom Wow I just realized I didn't even set one. I would say pick something reasonable maybe based on a BMI that would put you in normal range (they have online BMI calculators if you didn't already know) . Just keep it realistic so you don't get discouraged. Good luck to you!

I agree that you want to be conservative. I set all sorts of goals and then after 2 weeks, my weight loss stopped and when it started again, it's been very slow. I have been so discouraged and part of the reason for that is that I had such high goals/expectations of what sort of weight loss I'd have.

I didn't know what to do either. I decided not to short change myself and set a BMI goal to land me smack in the middle of "healthy" (135 pounds at 5'6") so I'd have a bit of wiggle room since they say many folks will stabilize 10 pounds higher than their lowest post op weight. I got to 145, was wearing a solid size 4 and decided to stop. Maintained for 4 months and then decided to go for the last 10 as I still have a little "spare tire" around my middle. Kinda letting it happen slowly. 5 more to go. If I get there, I get there. At this point, I'm healthy, it's all about "vanity pounds" now. I consider it a downward extension of my goal range. Plus, I don't want to have to replace my expensive jeans! LOL.

Goals are interesting things. They are pretty arbitrary to be honest. And once I met my initial goal, I've since revised it twice. But, with that being said, I'm a huge goal-oriented person, so they help me a great deal! I think the first 6 months or so, I was able to pretty easily shoot for 15 pounds/month, then it slowed a little. For an overall goal, I knew I wanted 50% of my initial weight lost.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
