@@silvertaurus I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I haven't been sleeved yet, but joined this sight to learn more ang hear the good and the bad. More people tend to post the positive, but there is always that 1% that didn't go as planned. I'm sorry that had to be you. Complications of this magnitude are what scare me.

Phantompouch, have you been evaluated by someone who knows what malnutrition is by the *medical research*?

If you have problems, feel free to message me. I'll help in any way I can. I've had enough retaliation from doctors from some miscues from the bariatric surgeon, I know what the situation feels like.

There are always going to be some issues now and then. Things happen. It is best to approach this that people know what is going on and pick surgeons and groups that are equipped to deal with them. I got blown off and lost care in the area because the surgeon didn't pick up on the gallbladder, the gastroparesis, food intolerances that are in the medical research, etc.). I tell this so people know what some will do, what they are capable of, and hopefully to ask questions before you get involved with a group so that you get the best care possible. There is nothing like having problems not of your choosing, you get dumped and the surgeon who said he would do things to interfere with my relationship with other doctors, did so. No one wants that. Choose wisely and carefully.

something clearly went WRONG in my VSG...I had the surgery in NYC and I have been seriously ill for the last 15 months with severe and intractable pain and numbness in the thighs, legs, hips ,feet,stomach.....no relief....I became ill immediately after the surgery and I have deteriorated...to the point of muscle wasting and now, depression and PTSD....I used to function and work....I am unable to do so.....I have lost 160 pounds and look very sick.....anyone with the same issues ?please let me know ?

What hospital in NYC did you get your surgery?

@@phantompouch, have you been evaluated for a stroke? The symptoms you describe are highly unusual and since you indicated these issues arose right after surgery, it kind of eliminates more common things like shifting / misaligned vertebrae that can occur with drastic weight loss and cause peripheral neuropathy. I have no idea what is causing your complications, but anything nerve related to that degree needs to be assessed by a neurologist, not a bariatric surgeon. I feel so bad that you've had to endure all of this. Please update us when you can.

@@silvertaurus, my goodness, my goodness. To be unheard when you know in your gut something is wrong is such a terrible feeling; which for you was compounded when bad complications arose from it. Feel free to vent anytime you want to; you have had a horrible ordeal. Even through your painful words, I can feel your strength and courage. Never give up. You deserve the best and a full recovery from all of these issues. Please stay in touch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
