2 months in - how are you doing?

Recommended Posts

Just checking in to see how others are doing? My total loss (pre-op included) is 26 lbs. part of me feels that it should be more, the rest of me feels that it's a perfectly normal and safe amount to be down.

I've had 1 fill so far, having my next one in December. I've thrown up once so I know that the band is working as I was getting doubtful.

I have energy back to do stuff and feel thankful for that alone. I'm not eating the proper things or in the manner I was told to all the time but want to.

I just have to be patient and follow the rules.

Hope you are doing well in your own journeys!

Hi,

I was banded towards the end of Sept. only lost 16 lbs but still happy with that, at least the gaining weight has stopped. I had my second fill last night as I was still able to eat normal portions. My Dr has told me I may need to come back again in a week if I am still able to eat easily. I am on fluids right now and think I can finally feel some restriction, and if I am getting restriction with fluids then I am hoping the food will be less to :)

Trying to remain positive but still determined to succeed :)

Good luck :)

I'm at 34 pounds I think? Banded 9/11. I've had two fills, but going to get some out as I feel like I'm in the red zone.

I've been really mad that I can't eat all these Thanksgiving leftovers this week.

Did you freeze all your Thanksgiving leftovers? :o)

I'm doing ok with the portions at meal times but to be honest - I'm not saying no to the sweets showing up now that Christmas is approaching. Holding at 26 pounds gone which I have to remind myself is good for the level of work I've put in and that my health/energy is better than it was before. So I have no reason to complain but a few reasons to kick myself in the butt to work harder.

Attempting to start a support group in my area and hope that a regular meeting of bandsters will help us all reach our goals.

All the best to you over the Christmas holidays. Here's to a happy, healthy 2015!

Congrats on your loss! I had my banding in early September and am down a total of about 30 lbs since I began the pre-op journey. I have had a fill at each of my monthly visits up until the one last week. My dr started me out with 3 ccs, added another 1.5 the first month and another 1 cc last month. It wasn't until the second fill that I started feeling like the band was making much of a difference in my hunger levels, although the amount I could eat at one sitting was certainly diminished! I lost 7 pounds from my November to December dr's appointments, but I decided to hold off on adding any additional until my January appointment. I, too, am feeling so much better physically!!!! I've been able to reduce my high blood pressure meds almost completely! And I'm down two pant sizes.

I'm so afraid I'm going to do something to mess it up, but my dr keeps reminding me that we can always adjust the amount of Fluid in the band......a definite plus over any of the other procedures!

Keep up the good work!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
