Tonsillectomy

Recommended Posts

Hello.

My ENT doctor has recommended me to get a tonsillectomy. I am wondering if any bandsters have had that procedure done. I have always had problems with my tonsils and would like to do something about it, but not at the sake of my band. I am afraid that I will be under anesthesia something will go wrong and then the doctor may have to do some poking around in my stomach and "mess" something up...OR I will be consumed by the nausea and vomiting and end up harming myself. (Slippage)

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks!

You'll be fine. I had a tonsillectomy 6 months after my band. Recovery for the tonsills was worse than the band! ouch! sorry :]

It's not a problem. The only precaution you'll want to take is to make sure they give you something for nausea (due to the anesthetic) before you wake up so you aren't nauseated. **YOU** need to speak with the anesthesiologist before surgery. Don't bank on the surgeon to remember to tell him.

You'll want to talk to your band doc to see if s/he wants you to have an unfill before the surgery. When you have this surgery you'll be swallowing a small bit of blood and mucous and that can clog your stoma.

I have 3.8CC's in. How many did you have in when you had your surgery? I am very scared because of my level of restriction......Did you vomit a lot??

Thanks so much for the response.....

Did you have an unfill? If so, how much. What was your fill level when you have your tonsillectomy? I am really scared. I would be so upset if I lost my band because of this. Did you PB up the blood and mucous? Did you vomit a lot? How long did it take for you to recover? Did the anesthesiologist put the patch behind your ear for the nausea? I had that during the lap band surgery and I never vomited once.

I appreciate your feedback.

If you have a decent level of restriction, you'll want to get an unfill. In addition to the possible risk of vomiting, you are likely to do some coughing while you are healing from the tonsillectomy.

Good luck!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
