Rochester, NY sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Wondering if there are any Rochester NY area sleevers out there? I am pre-op, scheduled to have surgery on November 24th at Highland with Dr. O'Malley. Would love to hear from others that are local. Thanks! :)

@@living55 Hi there! I am nervous and excited. Probably more nervous! I actually don't have a pre-op diet. My surgeon doesnt believe in them, just Clear liquids the day before. So very happy about that. But I am actually doing my own version. Just to get things going and try and get as low as I can before surgery. I also have been trying to do one shake a day, I want to try different types so I know I will like when that is all i have to eat! I have ordered a bunch of samples online. I tried samples from unjury, which is what my Hospital recommends. Its pretty good, the Soup is really good as well. I also have tried About Time, just got that recently its tryabouttime dot com. Someone in one of the forums said they were great and its made with Stevia instead. Tried the strawberry last night and its yummy, not too sweet which is good. Good luck on the pre-op diet! Is it all shakes or modified? seems that everyone's is different. have a good night.

@@mjmboston Thank you so much for the information. I will definitely try the unjury. My diet is modified. I get a meal for dinner which is great. I have been telling the few people who know that I will have an attitude for two weeks, haha, but it should’t be so bad. I guess I will try getting the samples. How do you go about doing that? I read everyone mentioning getting samples, it must be easy requesting them. I have to do liquids two days prior, so thay will be a little tough. I feel the same way, probably a bit more nervous as well. Well as of tomorrow we are officially two weeks away. Thanks so much for the good luck. I will need it. I will try to run out and get some today. Its been such a busy week. If not, Breakfast run. ha! I will keep you posted ;)

@@living55 Hi there, for samples I went on to the various sites that people mention on here like bariatric pantry and Nashua Nutrition, also tryabouttime dot com which is all natural. BUt you do have to pay for the samples. Its just getting them in single servings so you can try them out.

Good luck!

@@mjmboston its day 3 I get to go home today. When I came to my back was killing me but pain meds took care of that but let me tell you the gas pains are a doozy. I didn't think it would hurt as much as it did. It's much better today, walking does help and they did give me protonix. Still waiting to pass the elusive gas everyone speaks of that I know will make me feel wonderful. They are right. Sipping the little ounces of Water is hard, but until I can do 3 in an hr they will not send me home because they do not want me to dehydrate. Don't rush them though because you can get nauseous. Feeling much better today and am excited for the rest of my recovery :)

Hi @@mjmboston your day is soon coming. Are you ready? How do you feel? As for me my first post op visit is tomorrow, I am excited to see how I am doing. I am starting to get some energy back and feeling more like myself. My smiley face (what your stomach looks like lol) is still sore, the gas pains are getting better but come and go with bang. Tired of my liquid Phase 1 Diet but I know its whats best for me, its just the last couple of nights I started feeling hungry but I love the sample schedule they gave me, helps me get all my fluids in and daily I drink more :) Hope to hear from you.

@@living55 Hi There, sounds like things are going well! My surgery date has moved. It was my doing, not my doctors. I have a huge project at work that was supposed to be completed by surgery and its not so i was able to push it to December 15th. A little disappointed I have longer to wait but this way I can relax after and not worry about work. Good luck on your post-op apt!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
